Baroness Cancel Tour After Coach Crash

It is reported that sludge-metal band Baroness have been involved in a serious road accident on their journey between gigs in Bath and Southampton.

Image from BBC Twitter

Emergency services were called to Brassknocker Hill, in Monkton Combe, on the B3108 at its junction with the A36 Warminster Road at 11:30 BST. Two people on board suffered multiple fractures and were later freed by firefighters whilst seven other members had minor injuries. Details as to what caused the crash remain unclear, however eye witnesses have reported that there was low visibility due to weather at the time of the accident.

On the band’s official Facebook page the following statement was posted:

“Baroness were in a serious bus accident last night near Bath, England. The band members and crew are recovering at local hospitals. All tour dates are postponed until further notice.”

Meanwhile, the promoter for the Baroness show in Southampton, scheduled for tonight, announced:

“It is with great regret that we have to inform you that Baroness were involved in a very serious road accident earlier today and will not be able to perform at Talking Heads tonight. Our thoughts are with the band at this time and we wish them and their crew a speedy recovery.”

Here at Crossfire, we would like to reflect the words of many fans and wish Baroness all the best and a quick recovery.

The Safety Fire Post New Video

Crossfire favorites The Safety Fire have injected some fresh adrenalin into our veins with their high speed video for latest single DMB (FDP) that dropped this evening. The video, directed and edited by Jamie Carter, showcases the bands energetic live performances from their recent tour with metal titans Gojira and their critically acclaimed performance at this years Download festival.

TSF guitarist Derya Nagle explains a bit more about how the video was made and why they picked this track in particular:

‘DMB (FDP) is one of our favourite songs to play live and was an obvious choice for this video. We love touring, and wanted to give a wider audience a glimpse into what our live show is all about. We filmed over several UK dates, including our performance at Download and our recent run with Gojira. We were lucky enough to have our good friend Jamie Carter produce the video, whose eclectic credits include Rise To Remain, Conor Maynard, Funeral For A Friend and Professor Green to name a few. Other filming duties were handled by our friends and crew including our brü Adam Nolly Getgood, who recently joined Periphery. More importantly this video will help spread the message of #FDP. Jokes.’

Not ones to sit still for too long, The Safety Fire will be heading back out on the road this autumn as support for the legendary Between The Buried And Me and US djent/tech-metal heroes, Periphery. The dates are as follows:

5th, Manchester – O2 Club Academy
6th, Leeds – Cockpit
7th, Bristol – O2 Academy
8th, Southampton – The Brook

Rock T-shirt Banned From Olympic Celebration

The Olympics appears to be a non-stop controversy creator at the moment, whether it be for the authority’s placing missiles on residents’ homes, obscene traffic chaos or going massively over the original £2.3billion budget. But the thing that’s really got our blood boiling is the tale of a young woman who was asked to remove her t-shirt that brandished the logo of 80’s rock band Weapon “as it might offend people.”… Wow. How Ridiculous!

An eye witness reports:

“A young girl and friends go to see the Olympic torch go through their borough. After a couple of hours a steward comes over and asks one of them to a tent. All four girls go to where several police officers are waiting. The girl is asked, ‘What does the writing on your t-shirt mean?’ She says it’s a rock band’s name. She is told she will have to remove or cover it up, as it might upset other people since it advertises weapons. This is happening as the army is standing around with guns…”
When the Olympics are supposedly a celebration of all culture, not just sport, this story sounds even more ludicrous.

On July 26th Dizzee Rascal, Mark Ronson, Katy B, You Me At Six, Rizzle Kicks, Wretch 32, Morning Parade, Little Comets and many more are set to perform at Hyde Park for an Olympic celebration show. God forbid they or any of their fans should appear wearing anything that could be seen as mildly offensive, the authorities would have a field day overdosing on political correctness!

If the only thing the organizers have to worry about is a t-shirt logo it should mean the Olympics will run smoothly without even the tiniest of glitches… We won’t hold our breath!

Lamb of God front man arrested in Czech Republic

Front man of the iconic metal band Lamb of God, Randy Blythe has been arrested and charged with manslaughter. The arrest took place before the band was set to perform at Prague’s Hard Rock Cage on 28th June 2012. Allegedly Randy’s arrest is in relation to an incident that took place at Club Abaton, Prague back in 2010. Local police have issued the following, ‘We have arrested the singer and charged him with the crime of bodily harm and resulting in the death of the fan’.

Reports suggest the incident occurred as a fan jumped onto the stage and was involved in a tussle with Randy resulting in injury with the fan’s death being linked to the injuries. Before further details are released these claims can neither be confirmed nor denied. The only comment from the band on the situation is a tweet reading “Freerandyblythe”. However, Lamb of God’s American PR team have announced a statement which may lay rumours to rest (for a while at least)…

“LAMB OF GOD management will be issuing an official statement on Monday regarding the charges made against singer Randy Blythe. As no formal charges have yet been made and the case is only in the investigation stages, it would be premature to make an official statement filled with false truths or innuendos.

Having said that, management wished to address today one false piece of information that has been included in many of the news stories released so far. Under no circumstances was there a fight of any kind involved. This incident deals with a fan that three times during the concert jumped the barricade and rushed Randy during the performance. It is alleged that the third time, security was not able to reach him and that Randy pushed him back into the audience where supposedly he fell and hit his head.

Again, until the investigation is concluded this weekend, nothing more will be released, but clarity and the facts needed to be addressed on this one reported point which is totally inaccurate.”

A week in skateboarding news April 20th

It’s been another busy week out there so here’s the round up of the highlights.

Firstly, the winter video comp has over 4000 votes. Have you voted yet? There are 12 edits here to watch, get stuck in.

The best edits of the last week in news start on home soil with the Death team and friends shredding a mini ramp and Dicks bowl. The San Homies edit saw Marc Sucui, Raemers and more feature in an amazing montage. John Rattray’s edit of Joe Pease made the homepage and is my personal favourite whilst Albert Nyberg blew up the Embassy with some incredible skating. Will he go through on the 24th April? There will be a vote there too.

Ice T and Ishod Wair collab’d for Real on a new deck run this week whilst Fos had Jason Dill in the studio for some more music and banter. Rob Smith has been hanging out in LA. His photo blog feature got bigger as of yesterday and did his tattoo collection.

New UK skatepark designs have dominated this week’s news with The Level in Brighton releasing whopping plans for the future. Guildford’s Stoke Park will be resurrected down in Surrey with a new layout from Wheelscape and Saffron Walden’s faultless Dreamland built park has raised eyebrows this week with a monster snake run mock up. Debate them all in the comments sections below the designs.

Pontus Alv found some lines, as did Unabomber’s Will Golding, the Habitat team skated Mexico and Ali Drummond rolled out a new edit for The Harmony.

There’s plenty more, search and destroy this weekend and grab the last of the Unabomber x Crossfire tees!
