I-Path Yogi

The infamous I-path Yogi is a shoe well know by skaters everywhere. Designed by ‘hippie’ pro skater Matt Field. The shoes I had were the suede version and were black.

The shoe looks simple but feels nice and is very functional. It has a well padded tongue with a relatively large stash pocket in the front. They have gel insoles to absorb shock and the soles are very flexible which leaves you with a comfortable board feel.

The sole is very grippy even with worn down griptape but not too grippy. Just right for the balance between Ollies and flip tricks. While I have been skating in the shoes I found it easy to get used to them from my old shoes (88’s) and have found a lot of tricks have become easier.

Overall this shoe has been excellent to skate in and I would definitely consider getting another pair in the future.

Element T-Shirt

This is one of a new range of t shirts Element have brought out for its Spring 06 range. The t-shirt itself has the classic element style logo with what appears to be a crest either side of it. I thought it looked like it had been given a wood effect.

The material was pretty good and seems like it could resist a good skating. Element products are usually of a high standard and this t-shirt is no exception.

Almost – Greg Lutzka (new Resin board test)

Rodders and Co. are always pushing for the progression of skateboarding and it’s material, so here are the brand new (and nowhere else for that matter!) Epoxy Resin decks. Basically The lab technicians at Almost have understood that skateboards are starting to take a serious battering nowadays, so the goods need to be tough, but not bulky. By replacing regular resins with this new Epoxy coating, the boards are stronger and lighter. Plus, you get the new 8 and 9 ply construction to boot for that little bit extra whilst still maintaining enough flex to forgive your sloppy skating!

When Crossfire received the Dukes of Hazard Greg Lutzka model, I set it up straight away and went for a fun push around. At a first glance the board is obviously lighter, and it took a couple of goes to get used to the extra pop. Once that was under control, the next thing I noticed was the concave. Having tried other boards from the Dwindle camp, I sort of knew that these planks weren’t going to have loads of concave. This new board has just enough (with straight rails and a slight dip behind the back bolts and above the front bolts for a “bolts” landing), but still feels pretty flat under your foot, so some people might find it less responsive than say an Alien Workshop deck.

Anyway, much like the weight, you get used to it, plus it works to a slight advantage in my case because a 7.75 board with size 10.5 feet requires a bit more space to move around upon. There’s nothing worse for a Bigfoot like me to feel like his feet are stuck in a bowl! A couple of extra specifics I noted was the paint job that slides pretty much straight away- no flakey ripple crap here, and the board took a couple of direct hits to the nose without indenting or chipping away.

I might have to get my gnarly boots back and attempt some lemming-esque stunts to really test the strength of this Epoxy stuff, but so far the board hasn’t flexed or twisted unnaturally. Don’t forget that Rodney usually pioneers and directs where skateboarding is heading, so get you hands on one of these and feel the future…

Spitfire Portahellas

Spitfire has undoubtedly dominated the wheel market for as long as I can remember; the simple reason is that they have the best fucking wheels ever! This isn’t my first set of Spitties and definitely wont be my last! They rock and I’m probably a bit biased as they are my favourite wheel co.

The Portahellas, like all their other wheels, are simply amazing and super long lasting. I’m currently riding 52mm black/orange swirls and if you like speed, you’ll love these!!! They are hard enough for endless slides and soft enough to ride on tarmac without vibration. These bad boys haven’t flat spotted at all and I’ve been putting them to the test on my slido-meter. They are immaculate on smooth concrete and mini ramp is no exception, MAC10 all the way.

They are hella good on all terrain and will serve you well, guaranteed!!!

Resurrection Mini Logos

They say ‘old habits die hard‘, but they know shit if you ask me.

A flat piece wood was my choice of ride for as long as I can remember, the flatter the better was a rule I lived by, until my resurrection that is. Seeing that it’s a new year, I thought I’d kick an old habit and try something new, so I went for Resurrected Wood.

I went all out with my new choice and opted for 8 inches of Canadian Hardrock Maple. My first session was rocky, but I gave it enough chance to find myself really enjoying the new experience. The board has a good contrast in concave, not too flat, not too concaved, just an even middle.

The thing I had to adjust to the most, was the high lift on its nose and tail. It’s something I’m not very used to, but it wasn’t hard to adapt and I totally confident with the shape of my wood after my first sesh . The tail seems to be a little bit longer than a usual board, but again, this is something I found useful for stability and super long tail slides.

I’ve been riding this Resurrection Mini for 3 weeks now and it’s still as strong as the day I got it. The wood is really stiff and has a cracking pop to it. Its not lost any of its power and I’m pretty sure a bus couldn’t snap this beast. It’s served me well so far and I can honestly see myself carving away on it for a long time.

If you fancy a board with extra lift, mad pop and extremely solid, then I recommend one of these boards.

They come in 7.5/7.75 and 8 inches and will have you reeled in before you know it…

Winter Beanie Reviews

Drop MFG Beanies

This hat is seriously comfortable, I have been wearing one all week. The reversible option is always a bonus as well, especially if you are on the run. Also this striped beanie comes in all sorts of colours, this is our favourite although they did send us rasta hat for the review, but can you imagine Zac sporting a rasta hat? Nah, nor could we!

Go visit www.dropmfg.com for all info on these 2 hats.

Blueprint

Blueprint Skateboards have gone for various beanie designs this winter.

The simple grey classic beanie is a sure shot and Chewy’s beanie will take some beating with the Charlie Brown fans.

This Chester beanie in red is pretty bland but will do the job and I have no idea what they were thinking with the Wallpaper logo beanie, as it looks like something your Mum will wear on Fireworks night! Could you imagine Paul Shier wearing one of these? There is something for everyone here though, so take your pick.www.blueprintskateboards.com for more.

Winter Hoodies Review

Blueprint Prevalence & Matryoshka Hoodies

Blueprint are arguably the most active skateboard company in the UK but what are their new hoodies like? Well after wearing a Prevalence design for a week, they are soft strong and very very long, just like the advert but without the dogs. Actually, you can take the long bit out, but they are soft and fluffy and desirable for the winter months ahead.

I’m sure their large European Tour to promote 2005’s Lost and Found video inspired the Matryoshka design, in fact next time you see Brady down the Southbank, ask him yourself. These hooded zippers are out now alongside their Cursive range, find out more at www.blueprintskateboards.com

Unabomber Wings Hooded Zipper

This is the OG in style, I dunno why, it probably has something to do with the great artwork but I have worn one of these until it started to get holes in the elbows over the last year and a half.

They are comfortable and made from the same people that supplied Crossfire hoodies in our last clothing run.

When you get these and they are new, they are so soft and cuddly and more often than not you find it worn by your bird when you are out, says a lot, go get one! www.unabomber.co.uk

Nikita Girls Hot Spot Hoodie

One for the girls out there. Nikita make some seriously funky clothes and this winter the Hot Spot Hoodie should probably be at the top of your hit list with its comfortable set up.

These are also available in black and red, amazon green and grey, brown and army green and grey and orange.

£54.99 from stockists you can find at www.afour.co.uk or the full range of colours if you click the Keiko link at www.nikitaclothing.com

Etnies Girls – Vandal Hoodie

This hooded zip fleece should keep the girls snug this winter with 80% cotton and 20% polyester to keep you warm on the inside.

Winter Skate Shoe Review

Emerica/Heroin Heritic II

OK, this our Shoe of the Year without a doubt and not only because Mark “Fos” Foster designed the dope Heroin graphics for this shoe either.

Emerica generally provide the best shoes for skateboarders out there, I think a lot of people would agree with us on this but The Heretic II is one of the most comfortable shoes on the market with its simple design and toughened rubber outline.

If you like skating in narrow shoes such as Vans Rowley 1’s for example, these will probably be too bulky for you but wearing these out to party in is another great option, they can be worn anywhere. Go to www.emericaskate.com for more info. Right, now let’s now talk about those dope graphics…Z

Globe Focus – SWYD – The Pritchard Signature Shoe

SWYD stands for “Sleep When Your Dead” and the man that used this phrase more than most this year is Dirty Sanchez fulltime stunt knob Matt Pritchard. We love those guys here at Crossfire so we were stoked when we heard that Pritch has a shoe out on Globe. Keep your focus in these clean, technical skate shoes with smooth leather or soft suede upper in a technical skate style, with stitching accents, a plain toe with perforation accents, and side stitched stripes. You can find an embossed and stitched Globe logo on side, heel, and tongue plus a full lace up front, with a padded collar and thick padded mesh tongue featuring keeper straps. Soft fabric lining and a cushioned insole keep your feet warm and they sport a Grippy gum rubber outsole for maximum board control.

Tech jargon aside, these babies are plain and simple, easy to skate in and definitely represents in quality as one would expect from a company like Globe. They come in great colour ways and this particular pair has a nice bit of graph wrapping the back of the shoe. I’m a suede man myself, but found these leathers relatively grippy and very comfortable whilst ollieing up a curb. Now venture out and purchase a pair of these, they are one of the few skate shoes that are really worth the money spent! www.globe.tv for all info. AC

DVS – Nova

I admit that I don’t usually rush to the DVS display when I look for a new pair of kicks, but in todays competitive skate shoe industry and among the hundreds of different models on offer, the new DVS Novas come correct. No bells and whistles just a simple functional shoe with a sweet suede upper and sticky gum sole. I started to skate these straight out of the box which is always a big thumbs up by my standards.

On the simplicity side of things, the stitching is double but I won’t hold my breathe and expect to still be skating them a few months down the line. Overall, the DVS Nova is appealing and even my mum said they looked nice, so that must mean something! www.dvsshoes.com for all info. RLD

DVS Shoes – Dill 4 Signature Shoe

With a gum sole and a suede upper, these DVS Dills are ready to skate from the box as they are pretty flexible being a thin shoe. with a hidden lace loop. There is nothing else that is special about these shoes, no hidden features, no bullshit, just straight up out of the bag skate shoes with a nice go faster stripe at the back end, just like the rider who skates them.

Now go buy the DVS video Skate More as it’s arguably the best on offer from 2005.

Winter Jackets

Matix Hoomat USA Jacket

www.matixclothing.com

Jackets are essential to survive the winter but finding one that you can skate in that works is actually quite hard. This jacket was the first to turn up here at HQ in a box from Revival Distribution and is the warmest you will find this time of the year. But making a jacket warm does not mean that it is the heaviest jacket on the shelf because otherwise you would not be able to skate in it whatsoever.

The Hoomat is warm because it is quilted but the overall weight of this jacket is far from heavy allowing you to skate freely and also just wear a t-shirt underneath to get by. The zipper goes all the way to the top keeping your neck warm and pockets are reasonable.

The French dudes that designed and made this jacket could have easily dropped a large filler pocket in the inside left but instead went for the deep fill pocket that goes to the edge at the top of your armpit which comes in handy for music players. 2 front pockets are zipped for you to keep your hands warm and the beauty of the design of the jacket is that it is not over branded with big logo’s everywhere and colours come in camo, army green and stylish black that you can wear out after skating with ease. This is my personal choice of the year, it’s a great jacket. I recommend this 100%. This jacket retails at about £79.99, go find one.

Globe ‘Selector’ Jacket

www.globe.tv

Winter arrived late this year, but it’s here now and it’s as bad as every other year! With temperatures hitting all time lows, you’ll need something warm but not too heavy for a session if you’re hitting up the great outdoors.

This particular polyester hooded jacket is very suitable for such activities. It’s extremely lightweight, but warm at the same time. With a bonded mesh lined interior and it’s milky outer coating, you’ll be well protected against the wind chill factor without getting your Gershon Mosley on! It has 5 zipped pockets on the front and sports a nice stash pocket on the chest. You also have a tiny zipper under each arm which you can undo to allow refreshing ventilation whilst you’re working up sweat practicing your backside 360 backside smith-grind backside 360 out.

The jacket has a stylish, yet simple design and comes in plain colours, nothing to loud enough for the New Order crew. It’s a must on my list and I highly recommend this bad boy for the winter of 2006.

Alan Christensen

The next 5 jackets featured on this page have not been sent to HQ for testing.

Hurley Biker Jacket

OK, this is not a jacket recommended for skateboarding but who said you have to skate in any of these products, it’s all clothing right? This jacket is a men’s heavyweight leather with a printed lining from Hurley. BTW, we were told the punk ass pin badge selection comes included. Nice touch.

Buy Hurley at www.hardcloud.com.

Etnies Tilberg Jacket

Well, it looks warm doesn’t it? But I must admit I have never been a fan of the tight sleeves on jackets as I have never really had that snotty nose thing some people have and these sleeves always serve as a perfect spoon!

Anyway, I’m sure es don’t want us to make them sound like they make jackets for snotty nose kids so we shall let you know that the fur on this is obviously not real, it’s waterproof nylon with warm pockets lined with quilting that are snap packed. Looks good from the photo.

Go to www.esfootwear.com and check the apparel section for more info.

Hurley Ladies JD Jacket

OK, this jacket should look dope on any girl just as long as you keep off the floor at gigs ladies! This looks like the sort of jacket that would make some of our friends heads turn and are recommended for girls with tight units!

This ladies fitted distressed leather jacket (white only) includes sweater / rib detail cuffs and collar.

A must have for any lady who swings a leg over a chopper.www.hardcloud.com

Nikita Milestone Jacket

I’m not a girl, (well not the last time I looked) but I reckon this jacket would look pretty hot on most. It’s a jacket and vest combo so great for winter and spring with a snug hood and 2 deep pockets in the front with zippers for your gloves.

With a polyester inner, this jacket should keep that warm glow that every girl loves to sport. Check www.nikitaclothing.com for the full range and also some very cute girls modeling them or www.afour.co.uk for all UK stockists.
