Folkestone’s Multi-Storey Skatepark gets green light

folkestone_car_park_skatepark0

Good news arrived on the South Coast this week with an announcement that Folkestone’s proposed £10m Multi-Storey Skatepark has been approved to be built by Shepway District Council.

The world’s first ever project that would see multiple floors of skateable structures have been developed by the forward thinking talent at Guy Hollaway Architects and Maverick Skateparks who will start work on the site soon. It’s a new development for the Roger De Haan Charitable Trust who obviously have exceptional vision.

The skatepark, that will be built inside two layers of perforated mesh for ventilation, will also host climbers and bouldering, a café, boxing club and more and will take between 18 months and 2 years to build. Watch this space.

Sierra Skatepark to use natural terrain at Woodward

woodward_skatepark_sierra_tahoe_natural

California Skateparks have announced that they have the go ahead to build a new skatepark at Woodward in Tahoe using natural terrain, a design that will have the likes of Daewon Song and the Worble Crew licking their lips.

The design plans released this week show spots built into the natural environment as opposed to bulldozing it and concreting it which is a rad move.

“We want to leave as much of the existing boulders, trees, and other natural elements as possible and have the park take advantage of the setting by integrating these natural features. Additionally, the elements that we do add are going to reflect the natural beauty of Boreal Mountain at Lake Tahoe. We will have stamped concrete that simulates tree bark, a quarter-pipe that looks like a naturally occurring boulder, and ledges that appear to be logs sawed in half, among other things. While all of these elements will still be built out of concrete and protected by steel, ultimately we want to arrive at a truly unique finished park that feels like it is one with the mountain. Needless to say, we can’t wait to start building!”

It’s a great idea. Start planning your trip this summer.
