Stockwell Slasher Tee Shirts

Stockwell is one of the best skateparks in London, maybe even the world! If you’ve never been there then get off the computer, smash your piggy bank open and get on a train and get down there for a session. The Brixton Beach locals are friendly (both skateboarders and local passing by nutters), you’re guaranteed to have a laugh and there’s a shop round the corner that sells beer. Enough?

Now after all that waffle let’s get to the point of this review:

SIMPLE: One design and one colour printed as front and back print.

Oh and one last thing, they look RAD.

Bored of Southsea Seaside Special T-Shirt

seaside_special_boredThe guys down at Bored of Southsea have revived a classic 70’s t-shirt this week, orginally worn by legendary Radio 1 and 2 DJ’s including heavyweight Tony Blackburn (pictured below).

The ‘Seaside Special’ pays homage to the classic British music show Top of the Pops that for whatever reason is sorely missed in the UK thesedays. Maybe this will help revive it. Back in the 70’s this show went on the road and was filmed in a big top in a number of British Seaside resorts including Torbay, Blackpool and of course, Southsea. So this retrospective t-shirt comes with a lot of local history and pride.

The new design comes freshly printed on a t-shirt and crew jumper with the Bored flag logo on the back and are £20 from their website.

This news has tempted me to search through old photos of Southsea Skatepark jams, where Bod Boyle, Steve Schneer and many others ripped the vert ramp apart back in ’89. There’s so much history down there, celebrate with Bored and buy one today.

éS Daze Shirt

es-daze-short-sleeve-navyThe spring weather and recent UK heatwave has made sweaters and hoodies redundant and replaced by the welcome addition of short sleeve shirts again. éS were one step ahead of the weather predictions this Spring though and have some fantastic new threads for you to check out at your local SOS.

Made from 100% cotton the Daze shirt is lightweight and not fitted so it allows you to move perfectly when skating. The quality of the cut is highlighted by the interior collar which gives it support so that your collars don’t drop downwards like dead flowers off your neck. This is quite handy as this problem seems to happen to a lot of shirts that are not made with any thought and after a few washes they lose their freshness.

If you are looking for some Spring/Summer shirts right now then this is highly recommended, go find one.

Altamont Night Stalker jacket by Neckface

Altamont night stalker jacket by neck faceAs soon as I saw this jacket from the new Altamont Spring Collection I knew I had to have one. Sometimes you can see stuff in magazines or online and you know it’s for you but on some occasions fate doesn’t work in your favour and said product just looks funny or different to how it looked in the photo shoot when you see it with your own eyes. The good news is that this jacket really does look as fantastic when you peel it out of the cellophane wrapping and comes with a few welcome touches too.

The Night Stalker has been designed by the elusive artist Neck Face who has been contributing to the Altamont collections since 2008, but this year he has managed to influence a full range of clothing that include tees, a jersey, chino’s and a bandana.

This is a mid weight jacket made from 100% cotton finished with a brushed cotton (suede feel) under the collar, inside trim and breast pocket. Disguised by the buttons you see pictured here it also has a full heavyweight zip on the inside plus deep front pockets for when you are skating home in the wind. These also have super deep inner pockets which I guess are the hidden interior ‘stash’ pockets although when I got her home I spent a good 10 minutes trying to find a Muska standard ‘stash’ pocket sewn into this jacket for ‘stash’ before seeing this video and realising that there ain’t no doobie smuggling going on in the Night Stalker! Saying that though you can fit pretty much everything else in these double partitioned pockets bar the kitchen sink as you can see. They are huge and will come in well handy when you need to carry stuff about.

Overall this jacket is a comfy, stylish and simple Altamont number that retails roughly about the £100 mark so this comes highly recommended. Scout one out and get stalking your much needed new Spring/Summer jacket today.

Altamont Bryan Herman Kicker Shirt

Altamont kicker shirtLast weekend when we had a mini UK heat wave I realised I had a few options for short sleeve shirts but wasn’t happy with the choice of old wears. Thankfully Altamont’s sterling delivery service has sorted the current problem by the arrival of this short sleeve Kicker Shirt.

Designed by Baker pro Bryan Herman, the Kicker is super light weight and not a figure hugger meaning you can actually skate in it and not feel like you are going to rip through the sleeves when performing tricks that require much movement.

This plaid design comes in red and green (but looks purple to me on the Altamont site) and is made up of 100% cotton. You will be happy to know that these are also softer than a baby’s butt once on your back due to Altamont’s care in detail for producing quality gear so grab one and kick out those old yarns and replace them with new threads whilst the summer is in sight.

Etnies Jameson 2 Eco

Out of all the skate shoe companies that service our feet you have to admit that Etnies (and related Soletech brands) are pretty much the only out there that really care about what they are doing environmentally. This month their riders have flown down to Costa Rica to plant some trees that will form the Etnies eco-Forest as a direct result from the sales of these new Jameson 2 shoes that have been ecologically crafted for you to skate in.

Bike tyres have been used to create the outsole and plastic bottles re-used for the shoe laces and if you are one of those like 2P who likes to wear skate shoes without socks then these also have some magical anti-foot smelling material inside that zaps odours called Dri-Lex. I have only worn these with socks so far so if you get a pair and roll with a naked foot then please let us know if this moisture wicking anti-microbial material actually does what it says on the tin.

After wearing these for 4 weeks now they don’t seem to be ‘those hippy shoes’ that may tick all the eco boxes and then fall apart. Made of heavy canvas and a natural cotton upper, the Jameson 2 is super basic but seriously comfortable which is what I want in a skate shoe. So go out and get a pair; the least you can do is help etnies in their quest to give something back as you will not get that with other shoe brands who have no history in skateboarding and that’s a fact.

Quiksilver Alex Olson Denim

In my early years of learning how to push a plank without looking retarded Quiksilver was a pretty big deal. The indisputable king of skate comps, the Bowlriders at Marseille, was at its peak and the brand had a then-new sense of heritage attached to it. When you though about Quiksilver you thought about France; you thought about frontside slashes and big airs; you thought about late 80s Lance Mountain, you thought about mid 90s Omar Hassan, doing airs over a bloody tiger you even thought about a pre-pubescent Dylan Rieder and not in the really bad, weird and illegal way and of course,  Jereme Rogers who claimed to be on Quik and made up stories when he was young. How time has changed.

Quiksilver have since continued developing a sort of taste for skaters who happen to be – how should I put this? – handsome-as-fuck. No wonder Rogers didn’t make the cut. Look at Alex Olson, whose signature jeans I happen to have on right now. He rips like a mentalist and the girls absolutely LOVE him. Just wearing these tight black badboys makes me feel at least four percent more attractive to both the opposite sex and those weird guys who drink beers at the bowls and whistle at all the skate kids.

She’s talking about Alex Olson. But while I wear these jeans I like to think that she’s talking about me. So it is with great pride that I shoehorn my podgy legs into these tight (but comfortable) jeans and go shredding. Quiksilver definitely know how to make great clothing, and therefore I can only recommend that you, providing you are a good honest skateboarder, to go and try a pair on for size. You just might become more attractive and probably more likely to succeed. Probably
