New Black Lips video ‘Go Out And Get It’

black lips logoAtlanta’s garage-rock machine Black Lips return with a brand new video on VBS today of new track “Go Out And Get It” shot in the Bahamas with a bunch of beer and some girls in bikinis. The new track sounds like a return to form for the lads who have been produced in the studio for the very first time by New York knob twiddler, Mark Ronson.

The new album titled Arabia Mountain doesn’t currently have a release date but we have heard 5 tracks on the sly so if you dig their cheeky, psych nuggets tunes of old then rest assured you will be one happy dog when it lands in June.

Camden Crawl artist bunfight meeting reaps rewards

camdencrawlbunfightLast night we attended the ‘bunfight’ at the Camden Crawl curator meeting and came out feeling very happy with our choices of the bands that we picked to play on our night.

For those who didn’t tune into this process last year and wonder what the hell we are talking about the process works like this. The bands shortlisted by the many curators who are available to play are picked one by one by each individual curator in turn. Other curators may well pick the bands you want in advance of your turn and vice versa so you do end up with some surprises on your bill as we have done again this year, but generally most people walk out with at least 2 bands they desperately wanted.

We cannot reveal our full line up just yet but we will have 5 bands on the bill at the Barfly club on Sunday May 1st. What we can tell you is that we of course (by the rules) have a varied bill of genres that include indie, hip hop, post punk and thrash. The line up’s are picked like this so that the ‘Crawl’ actually works and people move from venue to venue.

Get your tickets in advance before it sells out from here and click here for the initial evening line up. We will reveal the 5 acts that we have picked very soon.

RIP – Phil Vane of Extreme Noise Terror

extremenoiseterrorphilvaneRumours that surfaced at the end of last week regarding the passing of Phil Vane have unfortunately turned out to be true.

The 46 year old founding co-vocalist of the British hardcore punk band Extreme Noise Terror and Napalm Death allegedly passed in his sleep last Thursday and will be missed by many in the punk scene.

Extreme Noise Terror were one of the flagship bands from the 80’s punk and hardcore scenes that had notoriety worldwide alongside Napalm Death and were also favourites of BBC radio presenter John Peel who recorded Sessions with the band for the show that introduced so many people to many underground bands that you would not hear anywhere else at the time.

I remember seeing them play Murder when I was 16 on music program covering independent music called Snub TV and it blew me off the fucking earth! My record collection was suddenly filled with the most raging music ever created including ENT, Electro Hippes, Jailcell Recipes, Napalm Death, Conflict and many others so without the likes of Phil’s raging vocals this site would have never have even been thought about. To that end we owe part of this and our lifestyles from the routes we took from people such as Phil Vane.

RIP.

Download Festival reveal 17 more acts

Download-Festival-2011Def Leppard were announed as the 3rd main headline act for Donington’s Download Festival last night which destroyed the hopes of Soundgarden fans everywhere.

Many people where hoping that Chris Cornell and his revived crew would have been announced at the top slot this year after reforming but instead, the 80’s soft rockers topped the bill and were of course on the same stage 2 years ago.

The festival also welcomed Bring Me The Horizon, Madina Lake, Southern rock-blues metallers Down, The King Blues, Bowling For Soup, Frank Turner, Trash Talk, All That Remains, Black Stone Cherry, glam rock wankers Twisted Sister and more.

Les Savy Fav cover Dead Kennedys in London

lessavyfavThe mighty Les Savy Fav played a packed out Heaven venue in London last night and covered the Dead Kennedy’s classic California Über Alles in fine style.

The band known as ‘one of the best live acts in the world ever’ here at crossfire are famous for their incredible cover versions and have performed outstanding versions of Debaser by the Pixies, Nirvana tracks and plenty of others over the years. Last night’s show with Pulled Apart By Horses as support was another classic to this year’s shows, look out for them at festivals this year as both bands will give you a good reason to be happy about your life, and that is gauranteed.

Enjoy this video shot by Sherry from the show.
