Flip Skateboards rolled out a sick new deck series this morning featuring the artwork of New York graphic artist/illustrator Jon Contino. Watch this video and have a closer look at how his sterling work has graced the decks of their pro team with art direction from Jeremy Fox.
Volcom are the latest brand to enter the footwear market this week and have launched a series of what look to be skate and lifestyle models for men and women with Puma’s help for you to have a gander at. There’s no doubt that if they are on par with the quality of their clothing range then these should be fantastic. The proof is in the pudding though so look out for them on your travels once they are in the public domain and in the meantime check out this preview.
A pair of these Etnies Marana’s were sent to our office in January. No note, no info, not even a follow up to this very day, they just arrived awaiting to be skated, sat in a box on their own, looking shiny, Black and brand new.
I’ll get straight to the point with these. As soon as they are on your feet they feel strong all round. You feel protected. It’s definitely due to the combination of various materials used to build this shoe and put to the test, the Marana stands up and delivers a multitude of positivity. The protection simply brings confidence which is not a feeling derived from the many skate shoes made today that are actually designed for the mainstream. These are built for skateboarding and come with a tough shell to cope with that in mind.
The padded tongue stays straight and doesn’t droop to the sides and overall the shoe doesn’t seem to wilt like some others after a few skates. It helps also that these are made by one of the only remaining skater owned shoe companies left. The Marana’s are worth your investment and retail at about £60. Out now.
Skateboarders can certainly be tools but don’t usually use phallic artwork on their deck graphics. Greg Nowik though is this month’s exception. His new Cockadoodle Doom model on Wight Trash is standing tall, erect and ready for action.
Don’t dick about as these will not last long. They cum in 7.5″, 8″, 8.25″ and a whopping 8.5″ and available on the Wight Trash site right now for £39.99.
Artist Jon Horner inked the helm and must have cast the fingers from the river banks of Deliverance. You work it out.
Now this was a surprise to see in Tesco this morning via Skate Hut: “Heroin make some of the best skate wheels around. Manufactured in the same factory for over 10 years (must be doing something right). They are Hot-Poured in the U.S.A and come with a mighty reputation.”
Too good not to post. ‘Every Little Helps’.
It’s worth us pointing out that Heroin Skateboards do not sell their decks, wheels or anything else via supermarkets like Tesco’s. This is a one off, a surprising find and certainly should not be taken seriously. Pick up these rad wheels at your local skater owned shop and click here for the new Spring catalogue.
Sometimes tee shirt designs are so well thought out that you just have to push the buy button, especially if you know that there are only 200 made and they are $26.00. Artist Aye Jay mixed Richard Pryor with Slayer to come up with this classic must-have. Keep an eye on Shirts & Destroy in case they restock this 3-colour gem. Currently, they are sold out.
Flip Skateboards have new wood coming for the warmer months ahead. Their 2013 Spring catalogue is now online and features new Lance Mountain Brigadier boards, Springer P2 models and much more. head this way for the full deck range.
Skateboards and metal are certainly the flavour of the 80’s but the fad still rolls and the classics still appeal to many. This week Metallica’s members have all designed and released a collab shoe on Vans following their classic ‘Kill ‘Em All’ half cab last year, again in celebration of their milestone sussecc of their epic debut album.
Bass player Robert Trujillo chose to add his own take on the Escuela shoe with an Aztec design, James Hetfield picked a Sk8-Hi and added his own skull and crossbones, drummer Lars Ulrich has an Era Laceless with added twill/diamond pattern from his snare drum, and guitarist Kirk Hammett has rolled out a hemp based Slip-On that features a Ouija guitar pick in the heel.
Those lazer-eyed cats that run Skate Mental have rolled out their Spring 2013 catalogue this weekend. Shane O’Neill, Dan Plunkett, John Motta, Brad Staba and Matt Beach all have new pro decks. A selection of one-off decks are also available alongside a new Evil Cat tee, tees featuring a Girl snogging a Dolphin, Wet T-shirts, stoned dinosaurs, Rainbow Uzi’s, beanies, caps, long socks, Fake Crap wax, Three in the Pink, One in the Stink Wheels and loads more.
There’s some of the new range featured here but find the full set on their site.
