Altamont Basic Zip Hood

I was looking for a new hood that would act as a jacket this summer and Altamont replied with the answer. If you are sick of taking a jacket with you to sessions and leaving it on a rail or on the floor because you over heat, this could be the answer.

The Basic Zip Hood is made of 65% cotton, 35% polyester, comes with a comfy hood, zipped front, has double pouch pockets and minimal branding. Seriously soft fabric jumped out of the packaging on first look and has not left me since. Definitely worth looking into if you are weighing up some options for new clothing this month.

Palace Skateboards Jungle Dream Hood

palaceskateboards_jungledreamhoodMixing the grime of innercity life and high fashion, this London-based brand has grown considerably over the last year and even drawn some European awared love in the process this year so far.

The Jungle Dream Hood by Palace sets itself aside from the rest of the garments on the clothes rack by its use of bold colours and triangle logo but also by it’s top-end price tag of £85. Many a skateboarder could not afford such an expensive item of clothing, but Palace isn’t seeking to supply the mass market. The people ready to pay top dollar for soft goods are those that recognise the difference in quality and the exclusive nature of the garment. Palace has produced a heavy 100% cotton top made in China with screened labels, thick cuffs and loose hood.

This is not the sort of top that’s going to shrink or fade after a 40-degree wash. Neither should it rip to shreds the next time to catch a crack in the pavement and hit the cold concrete. Check Slam, Lost Art, Reskue, Bored and other stores in the UK to pick one up.

Unabomber Wings Zip Hood

Regular visitors to this online mag will know that every year we get sent one package from the folks at Unabomber that puts a smile firmly on our faces. Yep, you guessed it, our package that is filled with the goodness of the infamous Unabomber Wings Zip Hood has arrived.

I have probably worn this hood more than any other. Why? Because it’s simple I guess, because of that logo, the one that has always been something i’m proud to wear as it never seems to get old or stale. It’s not fashion, it’s not even a statement, it’s just good old Unabomber and thankfully the good people who run the skate company nowadays have not changed it for fashionable reasons.

The one thing that has changed this season though is the hoody itself. For the first time I noticed that the 2011 version of this classic is actually thinner with an 80% mix of cotton to 20% polyester. One observation is the less bulky appearance under a big jacket so I don’t look as goddam fat. As for the design, some say that the classics are the best, others will always opt for the new, but in my rule book I go by the saying of if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
