’20 Years Tall’
Kitsuné

Utah boys Spencer P. and Thomas C. struck out to the west coast and have never looked back since. Collectively, they are Sego, a two piece sound that’s as cutting edge as it is classic, and meets our ears first in the form of ’20 Years Tall’.

A toe-tapper from the get go, Sego lay down a campfire groove that continually reveals a blitz of influences. There’s all manner of guitar hooks, synth freak-outs and sweet harmonies flying past you, with a lyrical nod to the good times only. Demo tapes and minimum wage, LA style. Their new five track is out now on Kitsuné, get into it.

The Proper Ornaments

‘Now I Understand’
Fortuna Pop Records

There was a time this year when the only time I could hear this track was on Marc Riley’s 6Music radio show. I searched high and low for it online, like a hopeless addict, thinking that someone, somewhere would have uploaded it, but no. It was a wait that I had to endure until it legally emerged on their debut LP Wooden Head but it was worth the wait.

Since then, ‘Now I Understand’ has been on repeat weekly. It’s like driving an old American car that’s been rusting and dusty under a sheet for 20 years. You find her, start her up, cruise until you reach your destination with a smile on your face and then re-take the journey back to the beginning all over again because it felt so good.

One of the best tracks of the year for these ears. All hail.

Geoff Rowley offers $5k reward after burglary

Flip’s Geoff Rowley has a made a plea from the Hawaiian island of Oahu today after being ransacked by a thief in the middle of the night who made off with his laptop, camera, wallet, passport, and a number of extremely personal items. He is offering a reward for his stuff back and has posted this on his social networks:

“If there are any surfers or skaters in the area that can help locate any of this stuff I would greatly appreciate the help. It’s the personal photographs of my family from this vacation that are most saddening. I’m offering a $5k reward for the return of the laptop and any other items.”

There’s no worse feeling that realising someone has been in your personal space, thoughts going out to Geoff and his family right now. Let’s hope that someone sees sense in this situation and gives it all back.

Plan B’s ‘True’ skate video premiere’s in LA

planb_true_skate

Warning, this post has some spoilers in it.

Last night, the new Plan B video ‘True’ was finally premiered in Los Angeles to a packed out Ricardo Montalbán Theatre in Hollywood. From overall observations online it’s said to be amazing, “taken skateboarding to the next level” and has delivered a “face melter”.

If you were wondering if Sheckler took ‘that’ backside flip down the famous steps of El Toro then you will probably have to wait for the bonus section on the deluxe – that’s if they were holding it back of course. The team did introduced Chris Joslin though as their newest addition on the night. He’s said to have dropped an absolutely killer part that includes a massive tre flip down the UC Davis gap. You know the one, think Andrew Reynolds’ kickflip in Stay Gold.

Whilst we await a UK premiere and the official DVD or iTunes release, scroll down to watch some Danny Way footage shot on Bob’s megaramp filmed by Kurt Hayashi that he shared over the weekend ahead of the premiere. No helmet required…

Kris Vile took the honours from Albion.

HUF also unleashed a killer tour edit from their trip through through Asia.

People been calling for Wes Kremer SOTY. On this evidence, it’s easy to see why. Who are you calling for this year?

The long player of the week goes to romcom skate video of the season: Homo Pop Gun.

And this week’s Vault choice is…Cheese and Crackers from Almost. One of the most game changing skate videos of all time from Daewon Song and Chris Haslam.
