Yo La Tengo detail new album

yo la tengo

Having just celebrated their 30th anniversary as a group, experimental rock legends Yo La Tengo have announced a new album titled Stuff Like That There for release via Matador on August 28th.

Described as a 25th anniversary sequel to the idea of 1990’s Fakebook, the new album will see Yo La Tengo return as a quartet, reuniting with former member Dave Schramm on electric guitar as they revisit a mix of “cover” songs, and brand new originals.

To add, the band will take on an unprecedented live set-up of Ira on acoustic guitar, Georgia up-front on a small kit and James on upright bass, marking the first occasion of this particular incarnation touring together as they set out on the road for a world tour. Check out the UK dates below and hear the first cut from the album.

October UK Tour

16 Glasgow – The Garage
18 Bristol – Colston Hall
19 Coventry – Warwick Arts Centre
20 London – O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire

Gengahr cover Fugazi

gengahr

London quartet Gengahr have shared an eerie, reverb-soaked rendition of Fugazi’s ‘I’m So Tired’. Taken from their 1999 Instrument documentary, the track’s original piano arrangement is turned on its head as Gengahr spin a web of guitar effects and softly sung harmonies, building to shreddy heights. Check it out below.

The Cinder Cone – The making of a treehouse skatepark

treehouse_THE_CINDER_CONE_skatepark_foster_huntington

We all have dreams. Some of them are realised, others just move on after we wake and drift into the ether. Dreams can be achieved though if you really want them. You just have to make them work, by hook or by crook, and that’s where Foster Huntington achieved the ultimate pleasure by pushing his until they became a reality.

He put a crew of friends together, each bringing their individual skills to the table including carpenters and skateboarders and then over the space of a year, something incredible happened. The ultimate dream treehouse, hot tub and skate bowl with a view of the Gods was completed.

You may have seen this image before but check out how The Cinder Cone was built in Skamania County, Washington in the Columbia River Gorge in this amazing new documentary. Huntington is now starting a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for a book on the project. It’s part photos and part DIY manual, and something to keep forever.

Keep those dreams of yours alive. They are all out there, we just have to work hard to find a way of making them happen, and fast.

Introducing Shredlights for your skateboard

shredlights

This week’s skateboard accessory comes in the form of lights for night shreds. With their motto: Cracks Kill! So join the war on cracks, these guys believe they have managed to design the perfect under-board lights that will assist your night time skateboard malarkey – taking 12 seconds to put them on weighing a light 0.15 pounds.

We can see them working to assist your ride but not sure if they would work if you were filming due to glare. You can always take them off though easily. One bonus is every one else in the sesh could light the spot if you don’t have a generator to lug about.

These are launching on kick starter on Go Skateboarding Day, June 21st. You decide whether you want them.

Famous for their $15,0000 gold plated skateboard and a long history of serving the scene, Shut NYC have collab’ed with their local fishmonger to produce a one-off deck collab – The Whitefish.

This celebrates 100 years of independent shop service from Russ & Daughters, a fish and seafood based deli located a few doors down from Shut’s Orchard Street shop. Owner Josh Russ Tuppert skates and chose the whitefish for its shape, it also comes with a repro of the shop’s iconic waxed wrapping paper.
