LLSB Propose Southbank Restoration

tumblr_n1vcwb1Qbt1tp4km3o1_500

Today Long Live Southbank have released a 50 page document proposing that the full area of the Southbank undercroft be restored to it’s original design and vision of the architects.
This spot is of absolute paramount importance to the UK skate scene. Southbank has been a home to skaters from every imaginable background since 1973, making it not only one of the oldest skated places in the UK but in the world too.

Southbank supports the development of the young and is a centerpiece to our community, bringing all types together and feeding the creative, supplying opportunities that are rarely seen in any other place but can all be found in this hub. Sadly, in 2004/5 two thirds of the space was closed off for temporary storage. It has been closed since and the landowners have failed to fulfill their promise of reopening it.

LLSB has already saved the remaining third with over 150,000 signatures, the largest signed building permissions objection in British History. They now aim to restore Southbank to it’s former glory.

Read more about the proposal here and drop a line to info@llsb.com if you’re interested in helping out.

Hey Colossus

‘Hop The Railings’
Rocket Recordings

These six sonic warriors only released their last record in February this year but prolificacy has prevailed with the announcement of Radio Static High, Hey Colossus’ 10th album release, due via Rocket Recordings this October 2nd.

Continually evolving and mutating onwards from their caustic early releases, guitarist Jonathan Richards explains, “after 12 years functioning in a Noiserock/Doom/Kraut/whatever scene of sorts, and being aware of unwanted repetition, we feel it is more subversive for us to compose songs with rigid song structures than it is to absentmindedly clang off another riff-athon.”

The album’s first cut ‘Hop The Railings’ confirms this proposed swerve of direction, laying down a mesmeric, rigorous and driving groove that never once falters through its cosmic six-minute lap. Hear it below and be sure to catch them live in London on October 9th.

Tour Dates
September
5th – The Audacious Art Experiment, Sheffield
11th – Double Dot Bash, Reading
26th – Liverpool Psych Festival, Liverpool

October

9th – Electrowerkz, London (album launch party)
10th – Chameleon Arts Café, Nottingham

Kurt Cobain is releasing a solo album?

kurt_cobain_nirvana_montage_of_heck

Yes. The Nirvana front-man and song-writing genius’ death is set to be further capitalised upon this coming November 6th, when the Montage of Heck DVD will be released with an accompanying ‘solo album’ comprised of MORE previously unheard solo material recorded by Cobain some 20+ years ago.

Montage of Heck director Brett Morgen is said to have found the recordings that will make up this album when sifting through the extensive Cobain archives for home demos. Commenting on the album in a recent interview with Bedford & Bowery, Morgen said listeners “will feel like you’re kind of hanging out with Kurt Cobain on a hot summer day in Olympia, Washington as he fiddles about,” adding that “it’s not a Nirvana album, it’s just Kurt, and you’re going to hear him do things you never expected to come out of him.”

As yet untitled, this ‘solo LP’ is due November 6th. Look out for further announcements online and head here for more Cobain controversy, courtesy of Buzz from the Melvins.
