Elsewhere, John Cardiel isn’t throwing wreckless 360’s over spines just yet, but maybe in the near future..? For the meantime, John is busy collecting rare reggae and dancehall tunes, whilst tuning up his latest 2-wheeled bike. Stay strong dude.

This week has been a corker so far. Not one but 2 brand new films have reached HQ for viewing purposes. Firstly Krooked Skateboards brand new movie Krooked Kronichles that premiere’s this week all over the UK.
The Gonz and his talented crew have delivered a fine video featuring some shit-hot skateboarding and overall production, strengths especially from Dan Drehobl. His part is amazing! – The friends section is massive, it’s full of great 70’s and 80’s tunes as well and as for Gonz and the rest of the team – “I’m Pro” is all i have to say….get this video from Slam City this Friday for £19.95 call 0870 420 4146 to pre order. They will also have a limited (1000 worldwide) Gold version £34.95, which I’m guessing has some extra cool stuff on it.
The other promo in this week is the Creature Skateboards promo “Born Dead” which rips a new hole in your head once you have seen it. Put it this way, you know when you watch a skate video and most tricks are edited with all the “makes”, well this is let off the leish and has so many bails through it it making this pretty real to watch. The sections in this promo are enough to give Anti-Hero a nudge as parts as good as Darren Navarrette’s or Sam Hitz will blow your mind, let alone the rest of the team. It’s gnarly for sure. The full video is to come but this promo is a good length and comes with death metal, hardcore and sludge for your aural pleasure.

It’s always nice to get a pat on the back for your efforts, so winning an award can always help float the ego a bit. Transworld have been running their award ceremony for a while now, and this year looks like they actually got a few choices right. Here’s the run down:
The Best Team for 2006 was Cliché which is pretty appropriate considering the amount of shredding these guys get up to. Plus the fact that they single-handedly made football look cool again…
Best Vert Skater went to the madman himself, Danny Way. No great surprise there if it weren’t for another year of limit stretching stunts and a lot of airtime.
Best Rookie for 2006 went to Jereme Rogers because this guy does not stop until the fat lady sings, and seeing as skateboarding hasn’t attracted any overweight falcettos, I doubt Jereme will stop killing it on his pro board anytime soon.
The Best Video of 2006 was voted as Baker 3, so get your hands on a copy ASAP if you don’t know already. Heavy parts from Antwuan Dixon, Andrew Reynolds, Brandon Szefranski and co. had kids, managers and groupies in a fever.
The video part that had people screaming the most was undoubtably Daewon Song in Skate More by DVS. I just watched Daewon’s part the other day and I still get hyped by it. Truly one of the most gifted skaters to grace this planet.
The Best Street Skater in 2006 went to Dennis Busenitz which is great because despite being quite a shy character, Dennis screams at you when he flies past at a hundred miles an hour plus.
This years Skate Legend went to the one and only Mark Gonzales. I’m sure the Gonz is stoked to be called a legend, but I don’t think he has any intention of hanging up his laurels, especially if the new Krooked video is anything to go by.
Finally, the Readers Choice award went to Chris Cole which is understandable when you see the route Chris has travelled with his skateboard over the last 12 months. I think I have an idea where Chris gets his trick selection from, and it isn’t from watching the competition because he squashed them ages ago.

If you’re like me, then you probably didn’t know there was an ‘official’ world record for consecutive kickflips, but in any case that record just got smashed to bits.
Always the ones to put some fun back into skating, Krux Trucks have been touring skateparks around the US with their kickflip challenge, and on May 27th, a little kid from the Vertical Urge skatepark in North Carolina bust out 219 kickflips in a row! Signal please! I land about one kickflip every full moon, so his record is in no threat from me…

The man who single-handedly supported Shortys has upped and left! That’s right- Everyone’s favourite nemesis/fashion guru/OG gnarler, Chad Muska has quit Shortys.
Chad came from Nowhere, Nevada, to then become the posterboy for a brief generation and international playboy (notably in Germany) with one of the best selling skate board graphics ever- the OG silhouette.
Was it the swishy pants? The rap/drum and bass album? The excess flair? The Boombox? The affair with Paris Hilton? The endless partying? Or the forum rumours that killed off his career as a premier skate legend on par with Hosoi and Gator…? Take your pick, but never forget how Muska moulded a new genre of gnarly skating and was always hyped for a session.
A pro model shoe on Supra is on the books as well as future work with Krew Apparel, so Muska’s legacy is far from over. Watch this space.
