Kurt Cobain is releasing a solo album?

kurt_cobain_nirvana_montage_of_heck

Yes. The Nirvana front-man and song-writing genius’ death is set to be further capitalised upon this coming November 6th, when the Montage of Heck DVD will be released with an accompanying ‘solo album’ comprised of MORE previously unheard solo material recorded by Cobain some 20+ years ago.

Montage of Heck director Brett Morgen is said to have found the recordings that will make up this album when sifting through the extensive Cobain archives for home demos. Commenting on the album in a recent interview with Bedford & Bowery, Morgen said listeners “will feel like you’re kind of hanging out with Kurt Cobain on a hot summer day in Olympia, Washington as he fiddles about,” adding that “it’s not a Nirvana album, it’s just Kurt, and you’re going to hear him do things you never expected to come out of him.”

As yet untitled, this ‘solo LP’ is due November 6th. Look out for further announcements online and head here for more Cobain controversy, courtesy of Buzz from the Melvins.

N.W.A – Straight Outta Compton trailer

nwa_straight_outta_compton

If you are too young to have been in the middle of this movement when it blew it up then we’re sorry, it was a blast. Now’s your chance to taste a piece of what went on back in 1988 when N.W.A dropped a bomb on the music world. It resonated through every street in the midst of riots and political unrest tackling racism and police brutality. Yeah, familiar story right? Nothing has changed since but they left history behind that’s worth talking about again.

The new biopic Straight Outta Compton is coming out in cinemas on August 14th and tells the story of that entire period and the change in culture through the rap scene. We literally cannot wait.

Look out for the cinema release and film download.

Slayer’s Kerry King slams Mayhem Festival

Slayer-2013_hi

Despite the thrash titans headline slot at the heavy metal festival, Kerry King is holding back no punches when it comes to ‘critiquing’ the event.

King blames the “shitty bill” and not enough thought having gone into reinventing the festival for Mayhem’s falling ticket sales and loss of two stages. He states “whoever booked this made a gigantic error”.

Whereas King blames the events organisers, they have responded to the backlash by turning the blame around onto the bands themselves – “The bands at the top all demand a certain level of fee to be on tour. Unlike punk rock, metal never knows how to take a step back to move the whole scene forward. That’s how punk rock was. That’s how we nurtured punk rock. Bad Religion would take a little less than they could on their own to bring the whole scene forward, so we could make sure we had a good (touring) package around them. Metal doesn’t seem to have that concern, never has since I was working in the clubs in the 80s. It’s always about a me, me, me thing”.

Billy Corgan ripped by the US Press

billy_corgan_rollercoaster

Can a 90s alt-rock icon not enjoy a day out at Disneyland in peace these days? No! As last week, poor old Billy Corgan was snapped by paparazzi riding a roller-coaster and the internet has gone bananas about it. Shameless celebrity snapping aside, the US Weekly came up with the best (worst?) tagline you could ever imagine.

“From a rat in a cage to the House of Mouse! Smashing Pumpkins rocker Billy Corgan took his Mellon Collie self to the Happiest Place on Earth, aka Disneyland, where he traveled back in time to the Wild, Wild West of the 19th century.”

What? No Mixtapes?

home_taping

It is now illegal again for the good people of Britain to copy CD’s for their personal use. Back in October 2014, the Government deemed the action of transferring CD’s into your computer’s music library a perfectly legal practice, but as of last week that rule has been overturned by the High Court.

The case was won by the Musicians Union, UK Music and the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors, who rule that the Government was wrong when it did not introduce a compensation scheme to accompany the law for songwriters, and other rights holders, who could face a loss as a result of their copyright being shared unethically.

UK Music estimated that the 2014 regulations, without a compensation scheme, would result in loss of revenues for rights owners in the creative sector of up to £58m a year. With CEO Jo Dipple adding: “My members’ music defines this country. It is only right that government gives us the standard of legislation our music deserves. We want to work with government so this can be achieved.

It is currently unclear how the change will be enforced.
