Here’s a double act you will not see every week. Birdhouse pro’s Tony Hawk and Aaron ‘Jaws’ Homoki pull a double McTwist together at a demo in Warsaw. Amazing stuff.

Toy Machine have welcomed Blake Carpenter to their team today. Get some of his huge bag of tricks from the recent Cosmic Vomit 2 flick.
UK film maker Mike Manzoori discusses the making of Blind’s new full length video ‘Damn’ in this latest video interview. Get the lowdown and watch some extra footage in this.

There’s no denying that music can make a video part come to life but you will have a bloody hard job picking a track better than Slayer’s to accompany four minutes of absolutely mind-blowing hammers.
Following the tragic death of Slayer co-founder and axe wielder Jeff Hanneman this month, we decided to dedicate this to him and the band for supplying the soundtracks that have always made skateboarding go off. We all know that the best tricks are made at the final minute of any skate jam whilst Raining Blood is pumping through everyone’s ears and veins, so it’s time to pay back some homage to the band who make it happen.
Here’s a selection of footage from the vaults with some of Slayer’s best tunes and a fine reason to look back at some amazing skating…
Oh and by the way, there are way more out there that didn’t make the cut, so no Grant Taylor in SB’s flick (as I could not find it to embed and secondly it’s a shit skate video), and I can’t be arsed to list them all, so argue about it in the comments below.
10. Slayer with Danny Way & Jake Brown at the DC Super Ramp in 2002.
There’s no need for music in this first entry, so see this as a warm up. Hanneman and his band mates are on the platform taking in a private session with Danny Way and Jake Brown in this clip. The DC super ramp evolved big time, as did Slayer’s incredible legacy.
9. Jon Colbert in ‘Chopped and Screwed!’
Answers on a post card as to the whereabouts of Jon Colbert these days, but his part in this 2006 Shake Junt flick kicks this off with some tasty slams ahead of his commitment in this part to Slayer’s ‘Bloodline’ tune.
8. Paul Machnau in ‘United By Fate #2’
Slayer worked their ‘Black Magic’ on Paul Machnau for his United By Fate part from Globe Shoes. Skip 7 mins 30 seconds on this clip to re-watch the Canadian rip the shit out of ledges and rails like a don. Does anyone else in the game own a better nosegrind? Arguable of course, but just sayin’.
7. Jon Allie in ‘Dying To Live’.
Slayer’s ‘Tormentor’ track was the chosen soundtrack for Jon Allie’s fucking amazing part in the Zero video, ‘Dying To Live’. Allie stomped every handrail and gap to absolute pieces in this section. I’m pretty sure that no DJ has ever followed Slayer with The Proclaimers either, as this flick did in John Rattray’s section, but that is the beauty of Zero- anything goes.
6. Creature in United Nations at The Berrics.
This blew up the interweb when it dropped on Halloween back in 2011. Watch Navarette, Mallory, Gravette, Apello, Hitz, Partenen, Hooker, Guerrero and Conover eat the place alive to the sounds of Slayer’s ‘Skeletons Of Society’. Total beasts.
5. Alex Gall in ‘In Bloom’.
Alex ‘Trainwreck’ Gall chose Slayer’s ‘Aggressive Perfector’ for his section in Transworld’s monstrous ‘In Bloom’ video. This was an extra track on the ‘Haunting the Chapel’ EP that came out in 1984 following Slayer’s debut ‘Show No Mercy’- both skater and band totally rip, naturally.
4. Wade Speyer in ‘Hot Batch’.
Many skaters (including myself) have sat on a platform shouting the words ‘Slayer!’ as this guy 5050’d round the entire Marseille bowl at 100mph. Wede Speyer’s section in Powell Peralta’s ‘Hot Batch’ video dropped onto VHS back in 1992 and although this flick is slightly forgettable in the history of great Powell full length’s, Speyer’s choice of using ‘Mandatory Suicide’ to his slow motion moves is notable.
3. Ben Gilley in ‘Label Kills’
25 years have flown by since Black Label started and nobody is ready to forget either. Ben Gilley’s section in the ‘Label Kills’ video released in 2001 flew the flag with ‘Seasons in the Abyss’ screeching out of the speakers whilst Gilley dug his heels in for the win. The best thing about this section is that Ben slams his bollocks on a rail and the music tends to cup it, so you don’t even wince. A section worth drawing blood for, for sure.
2. Erik Ellington in ‘Misled Youth’.
The friends section that came before Ellington’s full part in this Zero video back in 1999 had Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ in tow. Slayer’s epic ‘South of Heaven’ obviously blew it out of the water to accompany Erik’s work perfectly. This bloke is Slayer and also now the co founder of Deathwish. You should now know how this is going to end…
1. Jim Greco in ‘The Deathwish Video’.
The fact that this was released online in the same week that Jeff Hanneman passed is bizarre. Jim Greco’s recent Deathwish part is one of the best you will see all year. His relentless hammers are accompanied by Slayer’s ‘Dead Skin Mask’ and one of the most explosive combinations in skateboard history. Long live skateboarding and long live Slayer!

Sorry, how could we forget Big Brother’s beer-puking, wretch-worthy entry from the ‘Crap’ video in 2001. Knock yourself out.

The new Blind Skateboards video ‘DAMN’ is about to drop into your local skater owned shop on the 27th May. With full parts planned from their new look team alongside seasoned pro’s such as the legendary Ronnie Creager, this is looking likely to be a video needing some attention on release day. Following a great reaction from the US premiere, Bill Weiss, who has worked on this movie alongside UK film maker Mike Manzoori, has answered 10 questions on ‘DAMN’ alongside a brand new trailer. Get to know:
1. How long did you spend filming this video (not long since the last one)
It was 2 years and 2 and a half months total filming time for this one. But that was pretty much every day-non stop
2. Was filming it mostly SD / Vx1000 camera a conscious decision or just a practical one
I had both a VX1000 and an HD Canon rig so I would let the guys make the call. Almost all of them wanted VX1000 so whatever they wanted. But as long as a trick is good were putting it in if it¹s VX, HD whatever.
3. Where was it all filmed?
The video was filmed all over different places LA, Barcelona, Toronto, France, Texas, North Carolina, Amsterdam, Brazil, Sacramento.
4. Best and worst things that happened during filming?
The best thing that happened was being there when the guys roll away from the tricks that they worked so hard to get. Nothing is better than that.
The worst things was having to take the guys to the ER for injuries that happened during the shooting of the video.TJ had to get head staples, Filipe Ortiz broke his foot twice.
5. How would you describe the vibe of the video?
The vibe of the video is about pushing skating forward, fun and hustling in the street to make that happen. Shout out to everyone else out there pushing it and making videos happen. A lot of blood sweat and tears go into making these.
6. Is there gonna be something like a B sides / out takes series for web?
We have all sorts of stuff planned for the web as well as remix’s down the line.
7. Biggest challenge in making the video?
Biggest challenge in making this video is the standard of skating these wanted for their parts. It’s absolutely fucked when you first discuss some of the stuff they want to go out and try to get and then through all the craziness seeing it happen blows me away.
8. Why are full length DVDs still so important to skateboarding?
Full length videos are important to skateboarding because they are timeless testament to a team’s hard work all brought together for the world to enjoy. You get to go inside their world and see all the different perspectives and takes on skateboarding. They are a true bonding experience as the team go through so much shit together to make the parts happen. Everyone’s pushing each other and feeding off that energy. You cannot get the same feeling from a single web part that you get from seeing a full length team video.
9. Who’s in the video and is there any surprises to look forward to?
The video is Kevin Romar, Ronnie Creager, new Blind AM Yuri, New Blind Pro Cody McEntire, Morgan Smith, Tj Rogers, SEWA and Blind’s new Rookie Pro Filipe Ortiz. As far as surprises the video is packed full of them. I think people are gonna be really surprised on all crazy tricks in the video.
10. What¹s in the future for Blind?
The future for Blind is very much like the name of the video. I hope people watch it and say Damn… that was fucking rad or Damn those dudes are having a good time out there. We are also putting so much into the new graphics and the team is loving the new stuff. Nothing is cooler than seeing the guys check out the new decks and saying Damn that looks sick!

Another bemusing ‘skate’ fashion feature was published online yesterday spotlighting this new ‘skater style’ that we apparently are all wearing thesedays.
The catwalks continue to churn out scene-hoppers highlighted by the Guardian, whose efforts of supporting the ongoing battle at Southbank continue in this new article. Topshop were the last to make us aware of how the ‘Southbank skate‘ look was the height of fashion but we still do not understand the link with statements like “Skater style – fashion’s hottest trend.”
“Filling the style space left vacant by glitz comes skater style. Fashion rode a wave with surf a couple of seasons ago – now it’s skaters who are having a moment.”
The article also mentions various brands such as Vans with their recent various collabs with designers inking their shoes. Have a read and take in Stella McCartney’s wonderful work here. I have obviously just ordered one for the missus.

Things are changing out there on a daily basis right now. Alex Olson is the latest pro to leave Girl Skateboards following Brian Anderson‘s departure last week. Anderson is leaving to set up his own company by all accounts, so we will see if Olson is connected in time. Jason Dill and AVE left Alien a couple of week’s back, could well be a tight team if any of these are linked.
Here’s the news via Alex Olson’s instagram acccount.

Trunk Boyz Elijah Berle, Stevie Perez, Vincent Alvarez and Cory Kennedy have all been announcd as pro’s this week on Chocolate Skateboards. Check out their new pro rigs here that will be in your local skater owned shop this month and more wood released this summer and new video of them all skating Puerto Rica here..
