United Nations

United Nations – Never Mind The Bombings, Here’s Your Six Figures
Deathwish Inc.
www.unitedfuckingnations.com

United Nations is somewhat of a supergroup yet they’re one that doesn’t really shout about it. They play shows, write and record music, release the music independently (through Deathwish) and occasionally play live. People like them. Yet there hasn’t been a great song and dance about them yet. I guess it helps that their name is virtually ungooglable. And the exact identity of the members is somewhat of a mystery, apparently partly due to certain people being obligated by certain record contracts. However, they are led vocally by Thursday’s Geoff Rickly and it’s really awesome to hear him properly let rip on some rather aggressive vocals as opposed to his more melodic tendencies in (the equally awesome) Thursday. Glassjaw’s Daryl Palumbo and Converge’s Ben Koller are also rumoured to be involved.

Never Mind The Bombings… is the band’s latest release and has been released as a 7” EP and download. It’s a full-on onslaught of crushing drumming, searing riffs and head-combusting vocals that’s definitely not for the faint-hearted. The music lies somewhere between Converge and Thursday and comes across as a viciously cathartic experience for all involved, whoever that may be. The EP is a melting pot of hardcore and metal influences and is really just a taster of what this band is capable of doing live. Fast, hard and uncompromisingly heavy, let’s hope there’ll be more touring soon.

Science Update

Lots of good new stuff from the good ship Science this week!

The new line of sexy, sexy looking decks with transatlantic artwork courtesy of LA-based Steven Harrington and London’s Matthew Green and Chris Morgan is now available in all good shops along with some equally fine looking tees.

On top of that our eyes were treated to a 2010 teaser this morning. It’s awesome, keep on scrolling and have a look at it below after the new decks. Ben Cruickshank’s trick at the three block near St Pauls is very special…

Cardiff Plaza almost ready…

The long overdue concrete plaza in Cardiff is very, very close to demanding everyone across the UK to make a pilgrimage to some hot new ‘crete and spread their wheels all over it.

The official opening is on July 27th so to make sure everyone in Cardiff finally gets a ‘proper’ park, DO NOT skate it until that time. Fences are there for a reason, no matter how tempting they are to climb…

Some of the heads behind the design of park were invited for a test run and you can see how the place is looking. This is one of the raddest looking small parks I’ve seen in some time, if you’re town is lacking one then let this inspire you to do something about it.

Traffic Report: Deshi

In this week’s Traffic Report we head east to see Deshi skate some of Tokyo’s gnarliest natural quarters and ride walls better than I can ride down the street.

Still one of the most consistent and best things on the web right now, Traffic’s weekly report show no sign of slowing down the flow of banging footage.

If you missed last week’s then scroll a little further down for Ricky Oyola doing what only he can do…

Jay Maldonado photo series with Zoo York

Zoo York have recently unveiled the new ‘Locals Only‘ series a collaboration with skater-turned photographer Jay Maldonado.

The decks look absolutely banging and having someone born and raised in the lower east-side of Manhattan taking flicks make this super legit. Click here for an exclusive interview Zoo York did with the man himself and have a look below for the decks.
