Enjoi Skateboards have released their colourful Carnival Series decks this week designed by the talented London based illustrator Rob Mathieson who smashes it once again on the art front. Pro models from Jose Rojo, Zack Wallin, Louie Barletta, Cairo Foster, Wieger Van Wageningen, Nestor Judkins, Jimmy Carlin and Ben Raemers were formed from an amazing circus montage inspired by Barletta’s vision and nailed by Mathieson’s hard work in the studio.
This is also one of the best video adverts of the year. Look out for them in your local skate shop.
Those who follow John Rattray’s unsurprisingly excellent blog will have had the pleasure of watching this already. For those who don’t, well, you should start. You should also start by watching this superbly documented trip to New Zealand, Riding The Long White Cloud. Here’s what John himself has to say about this project:
“Below, in 5 parts, you should hopefully find a film of a muscle-powered tour that a group of skateboard enthusiasts undertook in New Zealand one summer. My idea was to use the trip as a speculative platform from which to investigate what life might be like in a post-industrial society. That is to say a society whose main fuel source has been depleted to the point of being scarce and expensive. Please let me know in the comments if this objective is not clear from the film. Thankyou.”
Expect great things, and reward your expectations with something beyond them. Check it and find Rattray’s blog here for more goodness from one of skateboarding’s most interesting minds.
Lakai have released a phenomenal advert for the Carroll 5 shoe today adding more supreme art direction to their already impressive video production history in skateboarding. Lakai say “..this could be one of our greatest pieces of commercial work to date.” And they are not wrong.
Directed superbly by Federico Vitetta who has brought us so many great skate edits and the sterling work of Johannes Gamble, Carroll’s new shoe promo breaks all expectations and raises the game once again in terms of how creative people who are involved in skateboarding can be. Watch this and get hyped.
We were at a loss when the site went down yesterday, especially when we had stuff like this with no ‘add new post’ page to put it in. Many of you keen web surfers would have seen this video already but even if you have, watch it again.
It’s the Lakai Voltage Tour video and it’s 25 minutes of non-stop incredible. Vincent Alvarez is just too good.
Another week another edit from RVCA on their european tour. Yet again, we’re treated to 5-6 minutes of styled out gnar from the likes of Leo Romero, Cairo Foster, Spanky, Nestor Judkins, Barney Page and Cory Kennedy.
As usual Leo gets down, Barney stomps it and Cairo Foster will make you spit your tea/coffee everywhere. Take note.
