Lord of the Swords incoming

The Essex skate scene is gearing up for the launch of the annual Lords of the Swords road trip and video competition. The event was started in Chelmsford by AJ Martin and Luke MacDuke to create a scene video and has morphed into a much bigger get together inpired by Thrasher’s King of the Road series.

Competitions aside though, Lords of the Swords is most importantly having a laugh with your mates. Last year’s winners managed feats of bravery, that included catching a sizeable snake under an Essex flyover and (failed) attempts to ride sheep!

All videos will be premiered at Park DX in Colchester on the 16th of September and the top 5 posted online here at Crossfire for the public to choose who should win. The Lords will then be knighted on the 18th September in Hooga Bar in Chelmsford alongside a mini ramp session and copious amounts of liquor. Look out for the videos next month and get voting!

Kennington sesh with SPT, Harris and Basi

We love Kennington’s concrete hole. It’s been there for years, ripped by many and even stories of baseball bats and fighting locals back in the day never deterred anyone from visiting.

This week some fresh footage of a session featuring Tom Basi, Jake Harris and Sam Taylor has been posted online, watch it here and check out Taylor’s new website once you are done.

Pigeon video from 1999 hits the web

pigeon_skate_videoThe late 90’s Southsea skate video, Pigeon, is online for the first time. Filmed by Keith Martin and Paul Gonella in 1998 and January 1999, this scene video features Portsmouth and London spots, many of which are no more. The skating is of a really high standard and the video has a true DIY feel. Many of the songs used are by skaters (including Gorm and Paul Tambini) and the film itself was edited on two VCR’s at the Bored Skateshop.

So if you are or were a Southsea local, love 90’s skating or just want to see some great skating, this wouldn’t be a bad way to spend just over half an hour of your time. Get that kettle on.

New Science decks, website and riders

London based Science Skateboards are back with a new promo, a new range of decks, baseball shirts, tees and three new riders.

Dan Beall (who you are probabaly familiar with from his Fresh Blood last year) is a Sheffield based ripper who can and will nose bonk anything. Luka Pinto had one of the best parts in London scene vid, Getting By (albeit the questionable colourways) so expect him to go big now he’s properly hooked up. Last but not least, Albert Gesswein has plenty of tech ledge tricks to make your head spin. All three have tricks in the new promo amongst the rest of the team that you can watch below.

The new board graphics feature a healthy variety of artists so there is almost certainly a deck for you regardless of your taste. Moving on to the clothing, there’s are variations on graphics which have worked well on decks (either in the current or past range) so they are sure to fly off shelves.

They have a shiny new website and are being distributed in the UK by Rock Solid and now will go stateside with Permanent Distribution. Get in there and support them.
