Globe Shoes – Magnum – Puzzle Series

Let’s face it, the Magnum 1’s are probably one of the most praised shoes of 2006 so to follow up such an achievement, Globe have come back with a shoe that is even better, the Magnum Puzzle Series.

These Puzzle series Magnum’s have more padding in the sole and heel and have a bigger tongue making them a desirable and comfortable vehicle for your feet to ride in whilst you ride your skateboard.

The grip underneath is second to none, the flexibility is much the same, leaving you with a skate shoe that will generally make most skaters appreciate what has gone into the production of this model with it’s vulcanised sole and a simple, but cool appearance.

There’s seven skaters involved in this ltd edition Puzzle project – Globe giving each of them the chance to pull out their own colours on the Magnum skate shoe but the preferred burgundy red colourway picked by myself to review is sported by Darkstar rider and all out destroyer, Paul Machnau.

These Globes are probably the best the Australian based company has come up with yet, go check these shoes and their staunch skate team out at www.globe.tv and look out for more collaborations with Magnum 2’s in the not too distant future.

Visit www.globe.tv for more.

Kennington bowl to be demolished?

Breaking news – this is a photo of a sketch of Kennington bowl. Read the captions carefully, then make sure you skate this place as hard as you possibly can.

If the money grabbing gits of Lambeth council want to destroy this piece of history and replace it with trees, then don’t let it happen easily.

Jamie Harrison from South London said to Zac on the subject “Kennington being removed, my arse thats my fucking manor, they will have move me and my whole gypsy family chained to the fucking barriers, to get at it, I have called in a whole bunch of tree hating punks from Northampton (they love concrete there) to secure the site, two had offered to move into the cracks leading up the trannies, and the other 12 want something more refined so i gave them your home address! They were so stoked when I told them they would have to stay somewhere with a fox in it…..”“.

Vans – 50:50 Collaboration Half Cab

The relationship between Vans Shoes and Danny Wainwright has blossomed over the years so it was not a surprise to see a special limited edition collaboration between the shoe brand and Bristol’s most efficient skater owned shop hit the shelves this month.

Ten years have passed since the 50:50 Store took it’s place in skateboardings underground elite and to this day Danny and Syd are still there defying the odds of running a credible store for skateboarders, attending and supporting underground events and seeing off the chain stores that have sucked the UK scene dry when the financial rewards and timing suited them.

Wainwright himself is currently and always will be one of the ambassadors of our countries skateboard heritage, after all, Danny was the first UK pro to have a Vans signature shoe out back in the 90’s as well as holding the worlds highest ollie record to this very day.

The release of this half cab defines Vans’ support to their biggest UK pro rider and celebrates such a wonderful relationship between the rider and the shop that has paved the precedent for future Skater Owned Shops to deliver goods to our local community in the shop and online.

The shoe itself sees Wainwright and Co deliver a colourway never seen before on Steve Caballero’s legendary signature model. The electric blue, black and grey appearance will not only be appreciated by the skateboard community but also the sneakerfreaks out there who collect the rarest footwear, as this limited edition pair of historic shoes will be sought after across the globe.

Get them now before they to take their place in UK skateboard history and be proudly part of it yourself. Visit www.vans.co.uk for the full flavour and pick them up from www.5050store.com online.

eS Game of Skate Finals

The eS Game of Skate Finals went down over the weekend, with a mental display of what can be done on a board these days.

Alex Mizurov continued his unending run of being really fucking good and not bailing ever to win the Am contest, bagging himself a year’s free mobile phone contract, year’s supply of bearings, and Transworld subscription.

However, the bigger boys in the Pro contest weren’t actually that big, and possibly not even pro. Chris Cole snapped the 1st place spot with a backside 360 kickflip leaving little Nyjah Houston and Mike Mo behind. Chris took home a tasty $10,000 for his troubles, see the full results below.

Am
1. Alex Mizurov
2. Andrew Smith
3. Carlos Lastra
4. Matt Lemond

Pro
1. Chris Cole $10,000
2. Nyjah Huston $5,000
3. Mike Mo Capaldi $3,000
4. Javier Sarmiento $2,000

Battle of Hastings 2007

In between flash floods and a summer that never was The 3rd annual Battle of Hastings somehow managed to land on a sunny day. The park was heaving with skaters from all over the shop and the park was taking a heavy battering.

The fancy dress effort was most spectacular from Robin Hood to Tarzan and far too many guys dressed as ladies for my liking.

60 people signed up to battle it out, Amir Williams taking the win in A group closely followed by Harry Potter from Crawley and in 3rd place was the Gypo army with a doubles run From Meanwhile Kev & Aaron Sweeney. B group was won by Toby Shaw and C group was headed up by Gamester.

Highlight of the day was the Vert wall best Trick. Aaron took the win with a lien disaster closely followed by Harry with a blunt taking a good ten slams before he rode it away clean. Others through down feeble grinds, back disasters, frontside airs and other radness.

Prizes were handed out as everybody headed off to the pub, a good day indeed. Hugh thanks to everybody who helped run the day, all the skaters that made the journey down and all our sponsors: Death Skateboards, Vans Shoes, Neue Eyewear, Casual Skateboards, Jibstar Skateboards, Sidewalk Magazine & The Source Shop

The Level Skate Jam

Venue: The Level Skate Park, Brighton

Date: Saturday 29th September 2007

Time: 11am – 7pm

Entry: FREE!

The long awaited Level Skate Jam will be hitting Brighton on Saturday 29th September at the newly resurfaced Level Skate Park.

The event will feature a handful of the best skaters in the UK, including Level locals Amir Williams, Louis Cooper, Tom Felix and Stevie Thompson, as well as Pete King, Chris Oliver and teams invited from all over the place. There’s also £300 and a load of product donated by sponsors up for grabs.

Event organiser, Jack Forester said “There hasn’t been a proper skate comp at The Level since 2003 so we thought it’d be a good idea to get everyone back out of the house and down to the park for a bit of a get-together. We are also hoping to help push forward the plans for the new concrete park at The Level, which will be amazing once it gets built“.

Contact Jack Forester at www.myspace.com/backtothelevel for more info.
