Free Chilly Gonzales Minimix!

You’d think that after breaking the world record for the longest solo live performance, Canadian pianist Gonzales might take it easy the following year or something. Far from it, after adding ‘Chilly’ to his name he dropped the Daft Punk and Beyonce covering ‘Pianist Envy‘ mixtape in February, released one of our albums of the yearIvory Tower‘ and is now concluding another amazing year with this 5 minute minimix.

In the minimix, Gonzales effortlessly plays 30 songs (including Prince, The Clash, Dr. Dre, Nirvana, Michael Jackson) on the piano in the average amount of time it takes to make a cup of tea. So press play and make a brew now, then skip back and listen to it again while you drink it.

Gorillaz to release new album on Xmas Day

After much speculation, Damon Albarn of Gorillaz confirmed in an interview with Triple J that the album made – for the most part – entirely on an iPad will be called ‘The Fall‘ and will be given away for free on Christmas Day as part of the virtual band’s online advent calender.

While you’re here, watch and listen to ‘Doncamatic’ with Daley below because it’s frequently on repeat in Crossfire HQ and it’s bloody rad.

Watch: Doomtree Blowout feat. Abjekt!

Our very own backpacking connoisseur of independent hip-hop, Abjekt is currently over the pond in Minneapolis rocking with his Doomtree fam. As always, the rap crew’s annual Blowout got pretty wild, and on day three they invited their friends on-stage with them to brock out and get vibesy. Our boy Abjekt was right up there with them, and you can watch it below before he pollutes every social networking site on the planet with it.

Wings and teeth for life.

Watch: Daft Punk ‘Derezzed’

Daft Punk’sDerezzed‘ has probably generated the most buzz around their OST for the visually mesmerizing Tron: Legacy. It certainly sounds like what we imagine most people were expecting from the idea of the french duo scoring a film; the orchestra take a back seat as a relentless drum beat and acidic riff take the motifs from Human After All and condense them into just under two minutes of exhilarating electronic peril.

It served as the diegetic soundtrack for one of the raddest scenes in the film, but the official music video that premiered on MTV (frustratingly for US viewers only) yesterday is some great visual fodder too.

Watch below as Thomas and Guy-Manuel load up ‘Derezzed‘ in Flynn’s Arcade and enter a joust sequence that’s a little closer to 1982 graphics than the superboosted sequel. Rad. BADADADADATSHHH BADADADADADADATSHHH.

Bonobo plays The Troxy this weekend

It’s been a great year for Simon Green, whose 4th album as Bonobo was released in March to critical acclaim. The Ninja Tune stalwart is something of a favourite here, with Black Sands being a permanent fixture in and around the Crossfire stereo.

As way of celebration of this fact, Green will play a rather special show this Saturday (11th) at The Troxy in London. The 2,600+ venue should make the perfect setting for Bonobo, following on from his sold out show at The Roundhouse with another suitably beautiful gig venue. UK shows could be sparse for Bonobo with Green’s recent re-location stateside, so this is one not to be missed.

Watch: Godspeed You! Black Emperor at ATP

Some footage of Godspeed You! Black Emperor’s first live show in nearly a decade has surfaced online.

The video was shot at the GY!BE curated ATP event The Nightmare Before Christmas in Minehead and is a reassuring reminder for all those going to see the experimental Canadian post-rock collective that they are as powerful and stunning to see perform as ever.  Watch Moya below.

Notorious for its mystic, visceral and awakening effect on all parts of the body and mind, the song has always gone down well live, as regular Crossfire writer, Moose said of his own anticipation of the forthcoming shows last night, “if they play Moya I’d shit.”
