Kerrang! Awards Gallery feature 2012

kerrangawards2012logoA few pints in and we arrive at the brewery with Enter Shikari to find free booze on tap and some strange frogspawn type food on the ends of wooden spoons. I had to try one but looking back I have no idea what it was. It stayed in my stomach though, washed down with a mohito and a can of weak beer, lunch was done.

Welcome to the Kerrang! Awards 2012, one of our favourite piss up’s of the year. The lovely organisers decided to give us seats next to none other than Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi and Ozzy Osbourne who sat with his wife Sharon and Kelly. Thankfully there was no dog shit to be seen under the table like in their house of madness. I did check.

As bands and hangers on guzzled champagne, Tenacious D’s Jack Black hit the stage to massive applause and picked up a Service to Rock award, various other awards were handed out to Mastodon, Machine Head, You Me At Six and others, an Aussie comedian laid into the Queen, Slash walked his walk and we threw sausages at emo kids.

We won the Award for stickering up the bogs and playing records badly at the after party. Now we have large hangovers. Thanks Kerrang! Hopefully next year we can can share frogspawn with Slayer. Enjoy the pics.

Ozzy and Sabbath celebrate being the kings of all metal!

Bring Me The Horizon took the Best Video Award, no pissing involved here.

Ever wondered why Kerrang! Icon Slash is so called?

Yep, of course we drank Tony Iommi’s beer. It was Carlsberg though so no wonder he left it.

The Best British Newcomer Award was well celebrated by While She Sleeps.

A week in skateboard news

The Queen may have handed us a short week but it was still packed with some amazing footage and a few surprises.

There’s some goodness amongst us but before we reach that, the important stuff has be raised. Have you signed the Bay Sixty 6 petition yet? If not, we would be really happy if you could take 2 mins out of your day to sign this and pass it on where ever you are viewing this from. England’s extremely expensive capital city only has one privately owned skatepark open. The owners have kept it afloat for over 15 years for the good of the scene so we need to make sure it stays, and for longer than the 2 years that have been granted. Please read this and do your bit to keep it afloat.

Video edit of the week comes from Hold Tight Henry with his coverage of the Emerica UK team skating Alicante. Tom Knox, Casper Brooker, Chris Ault and Kyron Davis get stuck into the Spanish terrain. Watch it below.

Surprise of the week came from Heroin Skateboards who welcomed Chet Childress to the expanding team. Newly signed pro Danny Shimizu played a part in the capture that sees Luda Crooks shredding Burnley’s finest. In related news, Chris Ault has left the Heroin team and is now riding flowed Anti Hero wood through Shiner.

Birdhouse’s leap of faith machine Aaron Homoki took the wow factor singel-handedly with this killer selection of monster footage. People are talking those Skater of the Year words online already, an accolade that Daewon Song is familair with. His new footage on the 5-Incher DVD from Almost is being rumoured to be his best yet. Luckily you can get a warm up from this Berrics Battle Commander section this week. Will he wearing DVS shoes in the future though? Only time will tell. Oh and if you missed Rodney Mullen’s speech this week, then it’s a must watch.

The best news of the week comes from Flip Skateboards, whose team riders will be heading to the UK in July for a Thursday night session at the XC Skatepark. Make sure you get this in your diary as it will be explosive.

Next week we will be taking a look into the Lakai, Chocolate and Girl camp from their recent get together in Yosemite Park, expect a tasty feature. Here’s the Top 5 outdoor activities Brandon Biebel accomplished before noon as a taster from the Tap:

1. 30 mile bike ride
2. Archery
3. Mountain climbing
4. Poolside
5. Smoked three blunts

Check the weather forecast before you go leave the house as this summer is looking to be ruined further by more low pressure, heavy rain and gusts of up to 70mph. Saturday is looking like the best day for a skate although the wind will be a pain in the arse. It wll also be seriously muddy at the Download festival so if you are there for a bit of Black Sabbath this weekend, pack a waterproof and a pocketful of JD and you shall win.
