Tool

After almost 5 years of waiting the truly unique and inspirational Tool return with new album ‘10,000 Days’. A 77-minute, 11-song prog-metal odyssey, ‘10,000 Days’ is packed with plenty of eight minute-plus twisted riff-a-thons, odd-tempo polyrhythms and Tool’s trademark eerie interludes.

Lead single ‘Vicarious‘ is no exception, boasting the epic melodies and powerful vocal harmonies that grace any and all current Tool classics.

The band hit UK shores in June for a headline appearance at the Download Festival, with several select regional headline shows lined-up thereafter.

Expect a feature soon on the various shenanigans and skate madness that went down during their stay.

Death riders have also been busy with Richie Jackson’s pro model being released in the UK and hooking up with Vox shoes and Rob Smith getting sponsored by Independent trucks. Consolidated Still Won’t Do It

Not long ago, a scandal broke out in the industry pitching two sworn enemies head to head: Consolidated Skateboards Vs. Nike Footwear.

Basically, Consolidated have preached ‘Don’t do it!’ in regards corporate involvement in skateboarding and the general raping of our culture by arrogant multinationals. Nike have tried numerous times to infiltrate the much sought after core skate market, and this time around they seem to have succeeded. BUT when the in house graphic designer for Conso was approached to design an insole for Nike SB model and agreed, and with that Nike thought they could market the new model as the Consolidated shoe???

Despite the recognizable blue, black and white colourway that is affiliated to Conso, the shoe is in no way endorsed by Consolidated or carries any of the skate company’s logos.

Naturally Consolidated hit the roof and is currently filing a lawsuit against the greedy multinational. They also booted amateur Seth McCallum by principle because he was getting flow from the enemy.

Damn… This reads like a good soap opera! In any case the jury are still out on the verdict, but keep posted to Crossfire as we are following the case every step of the way.

Mattias Nylen Wins Malmo Bowlriders

The competition was fierce and the ‘crete was fresh- The Quiksilver Bowlriders rolled up on Malmö, Sweden and unleashed a beast of a comp!

Malmö boasts the deepest bowl in Europe, but that didn’t scare British hopeful, Alex Hallford from Nottingham, who was hucking huge frontside airs in the deep end during his second runs. However, it was down to the local talent to reap the rewards of serious bowl schralpage! Mattias Nylen got first with his frontside blunts and stalefishs in the deep end, ahead of Swedish skate legend Nicky Guerrero who kept it cool with board control. Third place went to French madman, Seb Daurel who went warp speed around the concrete transition- so fast in fact that Christian Hosoi, who was an honary guest at the event, looked shocked!

Next stop Bologna for the Bowlriders final where Matthias can compete against the previous winners of each leg. Crossfire says watch out for Simon from Belgium and Andy Scott from England – undeniable talent on the road to victory…

Marv The Marsh Gets Grimey

Marvin The Martian, of Brixton’s Why Lout? crew fame, is to release his first solo EP, Hoods & Badges, on June 5th. Championed already by the NME, calling his style “Grindie” [don’t pay any attention to this], Marvin is leading the charge from South London re-working and sampling indie tracks. The EP features samples from Good Books, Art Brut and even a motorbike!

Don’t be put off by labels, especially if you aren’t into indie, this is grime which uses samples, plain and simple. And with collabos underway with Akira The Don and !Forward: Russia, Marvin is staying a busy man.
