The Worble – Wild at the Academy

theworble_skate

The campus is quiet, the sky is grey and brooding, and the few remaining piles of snow lie like crusty corpses on the sides of curbs, but inside you feel like Louie Barletta. It’s party time! It’s skateboard time.

New skatepark for Bradley Stoke, South Gloucester

bradley_stoke_wheelscape_new_skatepark3

Local skaters of Bradley Stoke in South Gloucestershire are taking in the news that a brand new £260,000 skatepark is coming their way soon to replace their current smaller set up thanks to Wheelscape.

A user group from the area have picked Wheelscape’s tender from three pitches. The design that will be officially signed off and sent to the council to approve on March 6th includes three fun looking bowls and a street area with flat banks, curved jersey barrier style ledge, hubba and much more.

Construction is said to start in early July and open at the end of September. There’s also talk of the park possibly having a roof built over the top of it in phase two that will require extra funding and a picth to the National Lottery. Well done to all involved.

‘All My Friends’
Facebook

It’d be foolish to be a London based trio of guitar wielding slackers without knowing that there’s a ton of other Londoners wielding their slack charms left right and centre throughout the capital city. Thankfully for Wicketkeeper, their breezy pop-smarts see them standing tall among a sea of five panel caps.

Methodically simple without being dumb, immediate without being throwaway, ‘All My Friends’ is a hook-laden, Lemonheads meets Pavement homage full of late 20s ennui. Captured live at House of Strange in South East London, their no-frills recording approach lets the song speak for itself as the raw energy pours and their slick melodies rise.

If you thrive on chunky guitar hooks and slacker charm then be sure to catch this instrument swapping trio live at The Shacklewell Arms on February 3rd with Naomi Punk.

‘All My Friends’ is taken from Wicketkeeper’s debut EP, Muscle Baby, self-released from Feb 9th.

Lucian Hendricks Brixton Beach docu

Ph: Jack Thomas Moore shot by Dog

Jack_Thomas_Moore

Brixton Beach has been under much speculation again of late from the poachers wanting the land to build flats on. Last week, the newly organised Friends of Stockwell Skatepark (FoSS) made up of the park’s local Skaters and BMX riders, succeeded in having the historic 1970’s skatepark listed as an Asset of Community Value by Lambeth Council.

“This is the first step in the ongoing push by FoSS to keep the skatepark safe and in good condition for current riders and future generations of Stockwell Skatepark users. It’s important that anyone who uses the park now, in the past or who plans to in the future lends their support to the on-going campaign to keep one of the best skateparks in the world here, rideable and safe for years and decades to come” says Matt Gold who is part of the user group.

You can join the campaign by signing up here and keep up to date with everything beach based on FB.

This recent docu follows a day in the life of 80s vert ripper Lucian Hendricks and his two sons who skate Stockwell and HOV weekly looking at Stockwell from their view.
