Blind DVD Box Set

(Incl. Video Days, What if?, sections from 20-Shot sequence, Trilogy etc…)

I think Christmas just came early when this popped through the letter box…

– The Blind Deluxe Box Set

i.e. Everything the Blind team riders have ever filmed in one package!

Ok, I’ll just list what we’ve got here: What If?, Video Days, all Blind sections from 20-Shot Sequence, Trilogy, Rodney Vs. Daewon 1 & 2, bonus parts from new Jake Duncombe and Morgan Smith, board galleries, Corey Sheppard art gallery, various unseen Creager footage and… some secret hidden stuff too! Phew!

I’ll skip a review of Video Days, What If? And the rest of the Blind sections from yesteryear because we all know they are great videos. Instead I shall tell you a bit about the bonus/extra stuff.

To begin with, Morgan Smith has taken a feather out of Ronnie’s cap when it comes to smooth and tech skating. This Canadian kid isn’t afraid to add an extra flip or spin whilst he stands tall on a few rails. Definitely a skater worth keeping an eye open for. Then there is Jake Duncombe with his summer footage. Jake is an ugly runt with that mullet of his, but he can definitely skate! How annoying… He even adds flair to his mullet by skating along to the old Crooner Tom Jones- Many of you might hate this track, but I quite like it (c.f. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas soundtrack).

Finally, there is Ronnie’s day at the office i.e. at the Dwindle factory. Think Daewon Song in the Deca video, but with less picnic table stacking and a whole lot more smoothness… Everything Ronnie does is bolts and will have a few of you crying at your feeble attempts to copy his effortless style. I think that despite this box set standing as a complete Blind video package, it also stands out as a testament to the level of skateboarding Ronnie Creager possesses. Never before has one person pushed the level of street skateboarding without breaking a sweat. For that alone, this collection must find its way into your Christmas stockings and video library!

(Note to Dwindle: The re-release of any other World Industries sub-companies i.e. 101 or WI, in a complete box set would be a huge success to, I think…)

R.A.D – Lost and Found

News just in.

The Grandmaster of british skate photography of the late 70’s to early 90’s, Tim Leighton-Boyce has had time to set up an Official RaD mag site.

The magazine was the UK’s hottest and is sorely missed by many skaters who were riding throughout the 80’s and 90’s. But now you can revisit all of your favourite features whether it be Smell of Death jams at Southbank and Meanwhile 2 or looking at pics of Bod Boyle at Raging Waters.

Mad Mike John, RAD ‘Photographer at Large’ from ’87-’90 also mentions that there is talk of RAD photo exhibitions in summer ’06. Watch this space.

Thunderbirds are Now!

If you’ve recently fallen for the loveable post-everything-core noise of hip London trio Test Icicles, then get ready to fall in love all over again because ‘Justamustache‘ is probably your favourite record. You just don’t know it yet.

Thunderbirds Are Now! are brought to you by the kind people at French Kiss Records (otherwise known as fab art-punks Les Savy Fav) and deliver catchy, high energy dance-fused rock that draws on the frantic power of At The Drive-In alongside the deranged shronk rock of their aforementioned label bosses. That said, they never stray to far left of centre for the mainstream to understand and successfully walk the line between art and commerce with ease. Watch these Thunderbirds go!

Sheavy

Rise Above Records have been responsible for some incredible releases over the last few months. New albums by Taint and Capricorns are about to put ground-breaking UK metal back on the map, whilst Circulus and Witchcraft released records so steeped in seventies folk and rock you start to question what decade you’re actually in! Next up, here comes Sheavy.

‘Republic?’ is the bands fourth album for Rise Above and it’s business as usual in the Sheavy camp. Here you get eleven slabs (yes, this one goes to eleven) of Black Sabbath inspired stoner/doom rock that is packed with fuzz and distortion and vocals that sound more like Ozzy than Ozzy himself!

A few years back you couldn’t swing a bong around without spilling rancid bong water all over a stoner rock band, but it seems that the majority of the bands have finally smoked too much and can’t do anything but sit down and drool. Not Sheavy – these guys are still waving their freak flag high and long may they continue to do so.

Public Enemy

Public Enemy have always been seen as one of the godfathers of hip hop. Their classic albums “It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back” and “Fear Of A Black Planet” brought their plight of the underprivileged to the plate and smashed a home run against oppression.

Chuck D and Flav are back with their first studio album in 3 years, and from the off its like they’d never been away with the heavy drums of “New Whirl Odor“.

Chuck D’s angry and punchy flow gives every track that hardcore snap that we’re used to with Public Enemy, and Flav is the perfect compliment to him, as ever. The use of strings on “MKLVFKWR” and guitars in “What A Fool Believes” provide a nice detour from the usual boom bap but its during “Bring That Beat Back“, that you remember just how influential their sound was.

Public Enemy are back with a voice as loud and justified as it has ever been, don’t sleep on it.

Dangerdoom

Take one of the most talked about producers of the year and throw him alongside one of the most productive emcees in the underground.

Now mix that up with a cartoon that has taken the States by storm, and you have Dangerdoom. Danger Mouse, of Gorillaz and Grey Album fame laces a great diversity of beats for MF Doom [Madvillain] to rap over.

The upbeat tracks like “Benzi Box“, “Old School” and “Vats Of Urine” leave you bopping and head nodding, whilst the down tuned sounding tracks such as “Bada Bing” and “Mince Meat” are more like Doom’s solo stuff, which makes the listener sway in acknowledgement. All these are helped with guest spots from Wu Tang’s Ghostface, Talib Kweli and Cee-Lo.

A lot of the time, super group type deals don’t work, falling under the hype that precedes them, but not this time. As the masked villain says, and delivers…..he makes mince meat outta that beat Mouse.

Project Rad…

What is Project Rad? It’s a rad project.

With an enigmatic team composed of an aging amateur named Youssef, and various sub-ordinates who like to skate in their underwear; the skate industry could be in for a shock…

So far footage of the Project is being heavily guarded in an underground bunker, and new recruits have not been mentioned. Crossfire has been given exclusive media coverage rights, so stay posted for more.

Market speculation…

Hold your horses on that bet about World making a come back with their new video!

It would seem a little family reunion has gone down at the Plan B offices with the possible reunion of Pat Duffy to the emblematic company that blasted him onto the scene many moons ago.
