Non Phixion Split

New York’s Non Phixion have called it a day, according to a bulletin on their website. Their ten year tenure together is over, allowing individual members to do their own thing. Ill Bill, Sabac Red and DJ Eclipse have all said they will work with each other in the future, under a different name, but the split comes because of “Goretex’s general unreliability and total lack of interest in touring, writing and recording music with Non Phixion”.

Ill Bill is working with La Coka Nostra at the moment, but plans to release a Live At CBGB’s DVD later this year and is also working on his new solo album, The Hour Of Reprisal, due in 2007. Sabac is also working on a new album, The Ritual and DJ Eclipse is looking to put out a Halftime Show DVD in 2007, with freestyles and interviews from his radio show.

Check out www.nonphixion.com for the full press release and also www.unclehowie.com for news from the individual members.

Special Punk Psych-Out Show!

Welcome to the mind melt. We come to turn your minds to jelly. This month None More Punk has gone psychedelic and we’re diving headlong into a world of fuzz box guitars, lurching garage rock and LSD inspired lunacy.

Strap yourself in and let DJ’s James Sherry and Zac Slack dose you up with an hour of the best proto-punk psychedelia you could hope to hear.

Much of the show is derived from the classic ‘Nuggets: Original Artyfacts From The First Psychedelic Era 1965-1968‘ boxset on Rhino Records.

This four CD set collects the best singles from this period that somehow slipped under the mainstream radar, or were just too damn weird. This music was a huge influence on the first wave of punk and shares many similarities, capturing the same reckless energy and drug-crazed rebellion as The Damned, Sex Pistols etc. Fuck the history lesson though, this is just great music, the when’s and where’s don’t really matter, just turn it up and drop yourself a cheeky half. More info at: www.rhino.com

This show is dedicated to Syd Barrett, the original founder of Pink Floyd who passed away recently. Syd took the raw sounds of garage rock and propelled them into another dimension, changing the course of music forever. Despite having not set foot in a recording studio since 1974, his importance in music is unsurpassed. This one’s for you Syd, you legend…

Remember when you were young,
you shone like the sun
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there’s a look in your eyes
like black holes in the sky,
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the crossfire of
childhood and stardom,
blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for far away laughter,
come on you stranger,
you legend, you martyr and shine….

Document’s Big Push completed

This years Big Push organised by Document Skate Magazine went down last weekend in fine style with team riders from Blueprint, Death, A Third Foot and East Skateboards taking part in the carnage.

The Blueprint team had Andrew Brophy on board as a guest who apparently was at the top of his game and Death Skateboards surprise guest this year was none other than a famous pro skater you will know well who was drafted in by Zorlac for the trip. Who could it be?

A Third Foot had a napalm injected maniac onboard their bus as a special guest which was reportedly like a night club on wheels all day every day! Allegedly one of their riders also managed to get kicked off the tour!

You will find out all the details we cannot give away just yet at Document Skate Magazine when they release the footage in a future issue.

Itrips To Be Made Legal?

It is expected that OfCom will legalise the transmitter devices which enable people to play digital music from their iPod via a radio tuner. The iTrip is a device which you plug into your iPod and then transmits the tunes to any nearby radio.

This is technically illegal in this country because the Wireless Telegraphy Act [1949] forbids people from transmitting radio signals without a license, which is why iTrips are bought from websites abroad. However, OfCom look set to change the law regarding this, perhaps even as soon as next year.

New Maiden Album Incoming!

Metal legends Iron Maiden are currently recording their new album in London. The album, their fourteenth studio effort, will be called A Matter Of Life And Death and is due out in August. Producer Kevin Shirley has said of the album:

“I feel from the outset we all clicked on this one. We spent two months in the studio, from Go to Whoa – from Nicko’s ‘tubs up’ to final mixes and sequenced master! Producing Iron Maiden is like sitting in the head and driving one of those mammoth automatons from Star Wars or Saturday morning cartoons! And there’s nothing that can stop it!”
