Lord Of The Park

Through the mist rode a lone skater… He had comped with the best of them and snaked his way to the top. No mere mortal dares drop in to a ramp once he had placed his four-wheeled steed on the coping. A Master of Disaster, Lord of the Loop and Sovreign of the Slash grind.

The Return of the King is expected at Projekts Mancy Way skatepark, Manchester, from midday on the 23rd April. An exclusive 35 foot mini ramp will be erected for the occasion, and popular ballads will be sung by The Duds and DJ Ben Perry. A fiefdom tax of £3.50 will be expected to pay for the ceremony to cover the costs of the ramp – plus you will probably get to see Powley’s arse included in that cos – simply a bargain!

Koston leaves Es Shoes

*DISCLAIMER: This conversation was allegedly held between two fictional industry types on Crossfire crosswires…*

– “Hey! Have you heard?? Koston quit Es!”

– “Of course I have! The 40 + forums geeks on the company payroll have been keeping tabs on this hot potato for several months now!”

– “He rode for them for over 10 years… I wonder what happened?”

– “Well, we’re about to leak a love triangle gone wrong on the net tonight, seeing how homophia always rocks the boat…”

– “I don’t think so! I prefer the money pitch- How about Green Flash getting bumped by Pony with a $2 million contract?”

– ” Make it $3 million!”

– “No- $5 million and a season ticket for the Lakers!”

– “Sweet. Kids love the money nowadays…”

Sorry, we lost it. In any case, Eric Koston is a free agent and probably the best skater in the world – a combination that sets the stakes pretty high. Good luck dude, 10 years spent giving all for a fantastic shoe company and vice versa has got to be applauded, new kids on the block take note….

New Larry Clark film incoming.

Indie director, Larry Clark is synonymous with skateboarding since he made Kids which featured New York Skaters (including Harold Hunter R.I.P.) in their search for kicks. This time Larry is focusing his attention on a group of misfit Latino skaters from Los Angeles in Wassup Rockers!

A brief synopsis of the movie would be this group of latino kids who dress punk rock and ride their boards in a plea to avoid the dangerous stereotype of South Central gangsters. The crew of kids take long bus rides across town to skate the infamous Beverly Hills High School and its rails (!), but run into trouble with local upper-class skaters and law enforcement.

Reminiscent of The Warriors, the skaters try and make their way back home by jumping fences and crossing various property, which in turn leads to varied encounters. Oh, and there’s a love plot that weaves its way through too.

At a first glimpse, Wassup Rockers might make skaters squirm uncomfortably in their theatre seats due to yet another one-sided cinematographic representation of their culture, but Larry Clark seems to have succeeded in blending a social statement with contemporary standards yet again.

Due out anytime soon, watch the trailer here.

Quiksilver Bowlriders at Interact Burnley

This World Cup Skateboarding event got some serious coverage last year, and rightly so! This transition-friendly comp attracts skaters from all over the globe to battle it out inside the unique bowl at Interact Skatepark in Burnley.

The great thing about this year’s thrash about is that there will be a custom built Cradle at one end of the bowl, which will then remain a permanent feature or the park, so expect to see skaters flying head over heels in hope of winning and securing a place to compete at the grand final in Brixlegg later this year.

Quiksilver are also looking for local bands to come and get the skaters amped with their music, so if you think you can make ears bleed, drop a demo CD off at your local Quiksilver store.

News just in: The as yet untitled Christian Hosoi documentary will be premiering at this event.

This film still has no planned release date so this may be your only chance to see it for a while yet.

Adidas to push skate shoes.

Ahhh! Little Ms. Sovereign has us all singing along to her Adidas anthem… Well, the company that brought us mad street cred (and blisters to boot!) 10 years ago with their Gazelle and Shelltoe models, is looking to make a comeback on the skate scene!

After a brief stint at sponsoring various Firm riders, and notably Mark Gonzales, Adidas fell off the map and since we’ve been left with swooshes and copycat designs. I’m not sure if you can call this a comeback, seeing as Adidas have always been involved in skateboarding – if only through the Gonz’s feet or those of the Euro team- in any case this might sound Third time lucky.

They aren’t joking around anyway because they have hires Crossfire pal and Skate legend and Photographer, Bryce Kanights (as their main head-hunter.

Can the 3 Stripes live up to the hype..?
