Kris Markovich launches Crimson

I’d love to find out what Kris Markovich‘s work ethic is because this guy has single-handedly ridden for and started up more companies than the shopping channel.

Anyway, after quitting Blind, Kris has found his goal and started up Crimson Skateboards with Richie Belton and James Atkin for pros, then Jeremiah Babb, Thomas Bonilla and a handful of other eager amateurs.

If you go and visit their website, you’ll be able to download a 15 minute bruiser of a promo video with no hip-hop here. The first thing you will notice are the graphics which are sick Markovich creations as you will see from the site.

Has Markovich found his version of heaven? In due course we will see how this develops, but looking good for launch.

French filming comp

In a similar vein to the UK’s ‘Day in the City’, the French are about to embark on their own filming mission.

La rue est vers l’image (The road to pictures) is a comp that gets a filmer and a group of up to five skaters together to film and edit a 3 to 5 minute skate video in either Bordeaux (28th August to 2nd September), Lyon (4th to 9th September) or Paris (11th to 16th September).

At the end of each week, the videos will be premiered at each cities skateshop; Workshop for Bordeaux, Wall Street for Lyon and Street Machine for Paris.

The videos will be judged by Fred Mortagne, Josh Stewart, DJ Need, Stephanie Solinas and Youcef Khemane, five people that touch several aspects of youth culture be it through videos, music or otherwise. The three best videos from each city will be aired on the Extreme Channel.

Three companies have been invited as guests for the comp. Cliché will represent Lyon, Metropolitan in Bordeaux and Landscape in Paris.

For more info and snippets of footy as the comp runs, visit www.larueestverslimage.com and www.plusdesucre.com (Sugar Magazine)

Birdhouse welcome Ragdoll

Anthony Scalamere aka “Ragdoll” has now joined Birdhouse Skateboards.

The amazing Las Vegas born skater was one of the riders free to find a new home after the decision to close the Pig Wood division this year.

Tony Hawk’s team have been busy filling the gaps left by team manager Seamus Deegan who quit the company taking Brandon Westgate, Aaron Suski and Anthony Shetler to Zoo York.

Over the last few weeks Birdhouse have upped the anti and signed up new 14 year old ripper David Loy and also St Loius born Randy Ploesser, whose unique skateboarding on his ‘sponsor me’ tape captured the eyes and ears of Jeremy Klein.

Click here to watch it, this kid has some serious skills and will be one to look out for in the future if this is anything to go by.

With this news strengthening the team worlwide and the inclusion of Death’s forthcoming video part in next months Big Push DVD, Zorlac’s juggernaut just keeps rolling on.

Save the Big O

Everybody knows how much it sucks to lose a skate spot, but it probably sucks even more when the spot in question is internationally renown.

The Montreal Olympic Stadium hosts one of the most natural mini ramp/full pipe spots in the Western Hemispehere: The Big O as it known to the locals.

Well, plans are being drawn up by the fatbacks to get this fun little loop squashed and the skaters need your help to do something about it. Check out this blog and see what you can do to show your support.

Elementality Vol.2 & 1st and Hope!

Woo Hoo! Here are some trailers for the sweetest easy chair action in a while.

First up is Brian Lotti’s film project 1st and Hope that follows several generations of street skaters as they cruise through the city of Angels. Cameos from Ray Barbee, Eric Dressen, Kenny Anderson and Paul Rodriguez to name a few. Click here.

Next, we have the second Element (US) video Elementality Volume 2 that is due to premiere on their website on September 1st. I can imagine the video will follow the same casual path as it’s predecessor, but expect to see some new faces such as Dallas Rockvam, Collin Provost and Jimmy Lannon.

It will be held at THE LURKING HOLE, Nelson St. (opposite the Ice Stadium) Nottingham, NG1 in mid-September (actual date t.b.c)

The first concrete incarnation of The Lurking Hole art-space, 6x4xLOADS! is to be a photographic exhibition exploring the murky world of ‘point&shoot’ photography.

6x4xLOADS! is a celebration of all the glitches, weirdness and scandal that unfolds daily, and every once in a while someone wielding a camera happens to stumble across and capture, thus presenting chance encounter and oddness for all to view and take-in at their own pace.

Featuring significant contributions from international artists and lens-folk such as Jocko Weyland (Elk Zine), Andy Horsley (Sidewalk Magazine), Rob Erickson, Ali Couch, Tobin Yelland, Jerry Price (Clutter Zine), Dave Bevan (88 Shades of Grey Zine), and Jake McGowan (Scraps of Why Zine) along with a whole host of other troublemakers and nay-do-wells, the show promises a huge body of work to get your eyes round, with a publication and open submission on-line gallery in the works to follow…
