In the article, his brother, Omar, assures people that in time, he will be back on his skateboard. Doctors are also saying he will make a full recovery.

Dustin Dollin has remarked (not associated with the article mentioned above) that Ali is now talking and singing along to the Borat soundtrack. This can only be a good thing! Here’s to a speedy recovery!

De Heathen back yeah

Pon de wall! Now, despite the Bob Marley introduction, this article has very little to do with him. Well, maybe the smooth flow aspect…

After endless tweaking and preparations, Heathen have unveiled their debut set of wheels. Weighing in at 54mm and 58mm means that everyone’s catered for, ledge technicians and pool lurkers, whoever you are.

Big Mark is already in with the spiel that these wheels are “smooth and fucking fast”, so get to it!

Guess-Hsu?

After 10 years repping Osiris, Jerry Hsu’s quirky feet have left the company to pursue their career further.

The rest of Jerry soon followed, and didn’t allow much time for speculation about which foot garment company he’d be strolling towards.

Looks like Emerica have snapped him up in time to film for their new video, Stay Gold, set to drop next year. Christ, that’s going to be a good video. Congrats Jerry, all the best on your new team.

New Birdhouse site & trailer

After being a bit quiet of late, Birdhouse have revamped their website and announced the release of a new video offering in the autumn. Nearly a decade has passed since the monumental The End, so it seems about time doesn’t it?

The Beginning will feature the whole team including Ragdoll, Willy Santos, Jeremy Klein, Steve Nesser, Shaun Gregoire, Brian Sumner, Shaun White, Tony Hawk, and even Tony’s son Riley will make an appearance.

Go check out the new website at www.birdhouseskateboards.com for news, photos, and the trailer video for The Beginning (which looks like it’s going to be nuts), or if you fancy this new socialising malarkey, click on the re-launched Birdhouse Myspace page and keep asking Sumner to give you a picture comment. Or something.

Also live this week is an interview with Birdhouse Willy Santos, click here to get there and win his boards in the comp page this month.

Cantelowes Opens!

Easter Friday brought sunshine to North London bang on time for the opening of the reworked Cantelowes Skatepark.

Hundreds of heads turned up for the opening session and were not disappointed with what was on offer.

The day was split into various open comps for skaters and bmx riders but the atmosphere of the first ride was the leader of the day – most who came with helmets got wet in the bowl and the street section got rinsed as well.

Awahd (pictured) managed to steal the best prize of the day with his presence earning him respect from Creme Skateboards spy Rodney Clarke who mentioned that ‘….if he makes that flip, he will get his reward’. The flip went down and Awahd got the good news!

All in all, the surface of this park is excellent and you can tell for the first time in a long time that it was built with skaters influence from start to finish. It leaves the ‘grab the money and run‘ designs of Finsbury Park in it’s wake and should be North London’s flagship concrete spot until the next council decide to listen to skaters themselves.

Look out for a small feature on this here at Crossfire later this week but for now click here for some really cheesy footage on pootube.

Altamont Breaking The Mould

When you hear news of a new rider for a team like, oh let’s say Zero, not that I have anything against them by all means. You kind of have a pretty good idea of what to expect, and most of the time, you’ll be spot on. Teams like Zero have an established image amongst their skaters, and whilst that isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it’s always interesting to see a company that completely destroys that concept.

Which is exactly what Andrew Reynold’s clothing company, Altamont have done. Handpicked by the Boss himself, Altamont are introducing four new riders to rep the clothes and to spread the word of ’embracing diversity’. Three have been announced so far. They are – the incredibly talented Kenny Hoyle, shredder with a total skate and destroy attitude, Sammy Baca, and smooth operator Theotis Beasley.

Another rider is to be announced shortly, so be sure to check out the Altamont Myspace and look into the blogs as they come in.
