Real Skateboard by Obey Giant 7.81″

Dude, when somebody gives you a skateboard so limited that only 500 of them were produced, you say thank you very much, buy some Jessup tape and you set that bastard up quicker than you can do uncle Ben’s rice in a microwave. The artwork is cute and all, but it’s a piece of wood at the end of the day and it was made to ride and slide, not to wall mount and dollar count.

This board is, like any other real board I’ve had, fucking amazing! It took me two sessions to find my feet, but it is such a rad board once you’re settled in to it, it will definitely have you grinning for more and more. We strive to find that happy shape, you know, perfect tail, sweet nose and short in height (my specs of course); that’s exactly what this baby does for me, it just sits right. There’s not a lot of concave either and it’s a surprisingly light piece of wood too. I had an obsession with Cairo Foster’s Real‘s back in the day, they were perfect and I ended buying like 5 of them. To this day, I have no regrets about my moment of madness, just happy inner peace and of course that great feeling of ‘I told you so, now fuck off!’!

Deluxe wood seems to be the ones I enjoy most these days and it definitely has a lot to do with a skateboarding attitude, opposed to an ebayers gold mind. The shapes are brilliant, the size is perfect and the wood is cracking (not literally!). It’s a great graphic too, but hey, the artwork’s long gone and the board still kills concrete everywhere. Think mine was like 163 / 500, oh well, hope the other 499 boards made it out of the cellophane and onto the open road; it would be a shame to waste your road tax by keeping that baby under wraps.

The board comes with some free stuff too, stickers, stencil, DVD etc, so it’s not a bad buy if you think about it.

Lewis Marnell visits HQ

Nike and Almost ripper Lewis Marnell dropped into the Crossfire office this week to say hello so we decided to interview him off the cuff.

Expect words to drop here when we can get them typed up innit. They include spider stories, near death experiences with Dustin Dollin and all fuelled by reggae and dancehall.

He seemed pleased with his new video part for Nothing But The Truth which is out soon but in the meantime watch some footage of him with his mate Dustin here:

‘Nothing But The Truth’ London premiere

Last night saw Southbank overrun with swoosh-fans all ready to peep the new video offering from Nike, ‘Nothing But The Truth’, and the turnout was phenomenal as you would expect.

With media press days happening over in east London all day, a fair few of the crowd (myself included) were well oiled and truly hyped to see what the shoe giant and their incredible team had to offer. When your team list includes the likes of Gino Iannucci, Brian Anderson, Paul Rodriguez, Stephan Janoski, Reese Forbes, Chet Childress and Omar Salazar, it can’t be anything but amazing.

The crowds assembled and free boxes of popcorn eaten, the performance began with the film style skits that have already been well discussed. Lewis Marnell (interview on Crossfire soon) had the opener and some beautiful reggae-tinged tre flips caught front foot and dragged back into land. Janoski did what Janoski does and made skating look far too easy, whilst Wieger did frontside 180 fakie nosegrinds that put people on the edge of their seats.

Gino received rapturous applause through his 8 tricks at the end of Brian Anderson’s section, which almost drowned out the perfect pop noises. Chet Childress also killed it and looked like he was having the time of his life doing it. P-Rod closed the show with the footage of ‘that’ treflip crook, which is fast. Really fast. I was shocked. And he knocked out yet another bolts switch frontside heel down enough steps to make asthmatics wheeze.

An incredible day, and Nike really know how to treat their supporters, but the video, with all the hype surrounding it, seemed to lack that certain something that could have made it the best piece of film ever made. Fingers need to be put on something, but I’m not sure what. Look out for a full review on Crossfire very soon, as well as interviews with Nike riders Brian Anderson and Chet Childress
