Crème Rodney Clarke

The only thing you need to know about Crème boards are that they know how to craft wood for your pleasure! This is my second helping of Crème and it’s a sweet sensation.

Rodney Clarke has been in the game for a long time and he still represents wherever you see him, be it skating or chilling, he’s a humble dude with superb feet skills.

This shape, much like my previous model, is semi flat, but not too flat. It’s got a little bit on concave and will please even “Irish Steve”. The nose and tail have a gradual lift, nothing to be scared of, it’s easy to adapt to and will have you flipping 8 inches in no time. I find this ride satisfactory on all terrain, trannies, street, park, living room and even grass; it’s not failed me before and has lived up to my highest expectations.

It’s over analyzation (yadda yadda yadda), but fuckit, this is arguably the best board I’ve ever ridden! It’s a solid ride that lasts and lasts and lasts. You’ll probably go through two pairs of “Bam” Adio’s before you snap this one…in fact, I reckon the tail could last you the entire summer holiday (nollies for life)!

Investing in Crème won’t disappoint you, their boards are superb and will soon have you roped in to buying another one and another one…Shit’s Legit! It’s run by skaters, for skaters, so it only makes logical sense that their product is of the highest order.

9/10 – Nothing’s perfect

Saaf Of The River Skate Jam

20th-21st May 06

May 20th saw the first ‘Saaf of the River Skate jam’ in Deptford South East London. How did this all come about? I hear the voices ask!

Well, long story short, I’ve got myself a pukka little Demo Mini-Ramp that until recently was dwelling, all neatly stacked up in my parents garage (cheers Ma + Pa) from the elements but unfortunately unskateable.

Now I’ve got a pal, whose got a pal who runs an arts exhibition/workshop type of affair in Deptford, who just so happened to have a lock up available which was just big enough to house a pukka little mini ramp…Bish-Bash-Bosh, Robert’s your Fathers Brother, couple of weeks of monkeying about with wood and screws and the ramp was up and ready for a thrashing.

Putting on an event is a real pain in the jacksy but that’s a different story altogether . After spreading the word about, and with a little bit of very generous help from some sponsors (Big Up Phil at Snickers, all at A4, Howies, Death and everyone else who chipped in) it looked like a good couple of days of skating were about to go down. It being an Am comp on the Saturday and the big spuds coming out for a Sunday sesh. Saturday was actually the most fun I’d had in quite a while, quite a few heads turned up for a mellow days skate. Little Ellie from Finsbury Park took some proddy for an array of sick lip tricks and some nice flippery.

Chris Jackson from Greenpeace smashed it all day with long, sick runs of some of the hardest lips tricks I’ve witnessed in a while. Glory boy of the day though was Jake Harris representing Repent Skateboards who glided through the nicest alley-oop BS Ollies, long BS Smiths and took home a firsta first try Switch Tre in exchange for some spanking new E’s shoes! Nice one son! Jobs a-good-un.

Sunday was the day of reckoning and despite all my fears of no one turning up and looking like a right Pilchard were dashed as a ton of my favorite ramp skaters all showed and tore my ramp a new arsehole! Not one to name drop but Nowick, Churchill, Jed, Stevie Thompson, Zorlac, and a chunk of the Death Squad, plus Bay 66 Crew and a sprinkle of some less known but ripping talent all threw down in exchange for some cash loot via an increasingly drunk MC Mark Brewster.

Highlights of the day for me were Nowick’s Blunt Tre flip in ala Deawon and India Matt Aka Steak’s early grab BS 540! Everyone who was there will probably have they’re own favorite parts of the day and if you want to know more, then you should have turned up you bunch of mugs!!

Basically, you’re only mugging yourself off if you don’t show for the next one, I can confidently say, if you ask anyone who was there and they will tell you they had a stonkingly good time. Picture it, good ramp, good music, shocking skating, beers flowing. Events run by skaters, for skaters are definitely the way forward!

Keep a beady one open and at www.rampjam.co.uk for info of the next one, it’s gonna be a cracker!

Thanks to everyone who helped with building the ramp, all who turned up and the sponsors who, without their support could not have made this happened.

Muska leaves Shortys

The man who single-handedly supported Shortys has upped and left! That’s right- Everyone’s favourite nemesis/fashion guru/OG gnarler, Chad Muska has quit Shortys.

Chad came from Nowhere, Nevada, to then become the posterboy for a brief generation and international playboy (notably in Germany) with one of the best selling skate board graphics ever- the OG silhouette.

Was it the swishy pants? The rap/drum and bass album? The excess flair? The Boombox? The affair with Paris Hilton? The endless partying? Or the forum rumours that killed off his career as a premier skate legend on par with Hosoi and Gator…? Take your pick, but never forget how Muska moulded a new genre of gnarly skating and was always hyped for a session.

A pro model shoe on Supra is on the books as well as future work with Krew Apparel, so Muska’s legacy is far from over. Watch this space.

Vox Hewitts

Vox Peter HewittsPeter Hewitt. What a guy, from the first moment he appeared on my radar in 411 33, talking about feeding his addiction to skateboarding by skateboarding hard and fast, I’ve been hooked. He is possibly the most dangerous, on edge skateboarder that ever lived. No one else could walk away from failed mayday at some of those Oregon parks… So anyway moving on from the arse kissing, I was really excited to get a chance to try out the new Vox Hewitts.

Vox is a new company that looked rad from the outset and have an amazing team of underrated rippers that kill any terrain.

When I first got the shoes, I wasn’t too sure how good they’d skate. This was because they were mid tops and looked quite stiffly padded. Hmmmm, I wondered, what would Peter Hewitt do to break his shoes in… I know, he’d go out and drink 20 beers and dance in puddles of piss and puke. So I dragged myself and my friends on a night out. A few hours and half my liver later, the shoes were nice and broken in. Perfect, I love it when a plan comes together…

So next day, skating was on the cards. These shoes truly came into their own after only a day of skating, padded in all the right places, a good amount of support and the midtop wasn’t too restrictive. My feet were happy as a pig in shit. These shoes haven’t left my feet since I got them, they stink now and are finally showing signs of giving up the ghost in the sole department. This is the result of 4 weeks of skating constantly, which involved bombing a lot of hills and foot dragging for control, so is to be expected really.

Overall these shoes have been a great pair, my feet have enjoyed them and so has my skateboarding ability. I’d definitely buy another pair and happily give these shoes 9/10.

Fos is having trouble staying awake in the city that never sleeps, so in celebration he has given himself a new pro model based on the modern-day Friday the 13th, The Ring. Apparently the shape is perfect. Well, if Fos says so, I guess so…

Is What It Is

Until we get confirmation, Crossfire doesn’t stand by any of these claims, but here’s a little round up of what forum geeks are thinking right now:

• Muska on Baker
• World Industries is dead
• Zoo York complete re shuffle with ex 5-Boro/Birdhouse team replacements
• Gino Ianucci retired
• Darrell Stanton off Plan B and DC Shoes

This shit reads like a wish list or a mephisto Christmas Special. Who cares when all the kids scream for this: http://www.skateboarding.com/skate/video/0,23430,1192839-1065065,00.html

Hot news off the press is Benji Galloway nipping first place from Italian Impressario, Daniel Cardone at the Etnies Bowlmasters in Brixlegg. The competition was tight seeing as Sunday’s finals had to be postponed due to crap weather- read: Global warming doom and gloom…

The second placing here, coupled with the win he had in Malmo means that Cardone is officially the
Overall European Bowl Tour Winner for 2006.
