The Ripps – Live

Camden Barfly
21.03.07

Whoever the opening act were at the Barfly, they were awful. And that is basically that. Thankfully The Ripps came to save the day by walking on, plugging in and ripping up with their brand of shouty indie-punk. Opening with their last single Loco, they set their stall out for the rest of the set – Loud bass, sharp drums and some fuzzy guitars which blasted through the two minute track.

Without ever having to tie up their set with meaningless banter, the trio blasted their way through more short, sharp sonic blasts such as Vandals which proclaimed we are a generation of boozers and wasters, the sinister Vampires complete with its bassline which seems to come straight out of the Batfink theme tune and their tainted love song You Don’t Even Care.

They know how to have fun too, as proved by the Supergrass-like Holiday which was the most obvious example of Britpop influences filtering through their songs. All three members brought their own little individuality to the tracks, but no song would have been complete without drummer Rachel’s shrieking backing vocals.

Whatever you think of their hometown Coventry, The Ripps are belting. Like the title of their album says, Long Live The Ripps!

Supergrass are back!

Britpop kings Supergrass are ready to head back into the studio to record new songs.

The band have said they are aiming for an energetic sound on their new record, the follow up to Road To Rouen which was out in 2005. Gaz Coombes recently said the band were heading to Berlin to do the recording and expected it to be a two or three week session, to get it done as quickly as possible.

“That’s where the enthusiasm is; in what you’ve got coming, in what the future holds. That’s what it’s like for this next record; there’s just some really kind of vibrant, sort of exciting bits of music happening. Just can’t wait to get it down.”

TTC

You know the deal when some girl just won’t leave you alone. She’s forever calling your phone, bombarding you with constant annoying texts and just won’t accept that your voicemail means you don’t wanna talk. Well, even for us guys who’ve never been popular with the ladies, let’s just pretend that sales people who keep calling you trying to sell you shit is a broad who won’t leave things be.

Still with me? Good. TTC, the french collective featuring Teki Latex, Tido Berman and Cuizinier, coupled with DJ Orgasmic on the beat for this track, have penned this absolute cracker of a jam, all about girls who won’t stop calling them. In fact, it gets so bad for them that Teki starts thinking about Dinosaurs because phone’s weren’t around then – lucky bloody Raptors!

TTC’s electro-hip hop gets floors packed and people dancing and this track from their recent album 3615 TTC is an extension of the amazing stuff they did on Batards Sensibles. Even if you can’t understand the words, you’ll understand the language of fat fucking beats and when you’re busy dancing with new girls whilst trying to forget the old ones, you won’t give a shit what language its in.

Now then, how do I put this thing on silent…
