Be Your Own Pet leave Warped Tour

Be Your Own Pet have decided to drop out of the Warped Tour.

The band said they were taking a break from their intense schedule but they had previously said this of the now Wal Mart sponsored tour:

“I just associate it with a certain look and a certain style and the kind of kids at school that I thought were– this is really bad, I’m sure– the kind of kids that were dumbasses wearing Rancid t-shirts who thought they knew what punk rock was and threw things at people in the cafeteria.”

My Left Retina

My Left Retina is a producer out of London with a penchant for grog.

His new EP, Fever Ate My Fist, is a masterclass is dirty basslines, high-end bleeps and shuddering rhythms and promises that there is a lot more to come from the beat maker. Opening track Chocolate Lime Dub [is there a better name for an opening track ever?] enters the fray with some sinister chords before shaking things up with a ridiculously lo-fi bassline.

Whilst the common theme on the record is the basslines, tracks such as Last Kiss [Neck Tied] showcase his ability to switch things up, the melodic and tuneful track reminiscent of a less cut-up Prefuse 73 before melting into Self Tongue which takes thing to the other end of the spectrum, vibrating and wobbling its way around your head.

The track you can hear above is Gordon Bombay, which begins with a vocal sample today telling us we’re not going to the disco, before thumping your senses with a bassline so heavy, you might just shit your pants. You can hit up My Left Retina by clicking here, and make sure you get your orders in soon, this EP is going to be gone in no time!

Massive Attack have nearly finished album

Massive Attack have revealed they’re almost finished with their fifth album.

3D of the grop said that though they hadn’t released an album since 2003, they wouldn’t hurry the release adding:

“You develop as you get older and more mature, and as you change and move through life and experience stuff. Hopefully we’d like to think that that comes out in the music – so do it in your own time is my motto. To be honest, until its mixed I can’t even tell you that and the mix will probably be one of those long, drawn out processes which will probably see us scrap at least half our recording budget in two weeks as we do it all over again!”

The Fall Of Troy – Live

Kingston Peel
09.06.08

The Fall of Troy are bringing sweaty back here at The Peel tonight. The day is muggy and all these people crammed into one teeny place isn’t conducive to a flawless performance. However, this threesome knows how to rock. They take a while to kick in and the crowd is waiting with baited breath. Frank Black’s (yes, that is the new bassists’s name) dreadlocks are flying with fury to the jarring, angular rock riffs that are being spat out of the PA.

Frontman Thomas is being quite particular with the sound tonight, urging the sound guy to adjust the settings slightly as it’s coming across as ‘chaotic’. He’s not wrong there. The crowd starts to move and Thomas is quick to declare “Moshing is for people who can’t dance. Swing your hips, not your arms.”

The crazy bass and guitar lines begin again and the response is incredibly enthusiastic when it all starts to come together. When this band falters on occasion throughout the set (it is fucking hot after all), it becomes part and parcel of their whole persona. Messy yet precise in their approach and their sound. This is orchestrated insanity at its best and they even throw in a Slayer riff! The Fall of Troy rock out wildly but the heat makes them weary towards the end of the evening.

Thomas re-appears for an encore which includes an insertion of Weezer’s ‘Butterfly‘. Then they get their groove back and start back with the heavy shit, pummeling into a punishing finale. It was clearly an effort. But it was clearly worth it.
