Dead rockers to be in new TV ad

Joe Strummer, Joey Ramone, Sid Vicious and Kurt Cobain are all to be in a new advert for Dr Martens.

The late musicians will appear as angels wearing the DM boots and their images have been cleared for use by Corbis who supplied the original photographs. They were then enhanced and retouched for the ad campaign.

Of the campaign, the company said:

“We wanted to communicate that Dr Martens boots are ‘made to last’ and we discovered that these idolised musicians wore them. Showing them still wearing their Docs in heaven dramatised the boots’ durability perfectly. And, as images, they feel very iconic.”

MIA cancels US show… again

MIA has had to cancel her appearance at the Sasquatch festival in the States this weekend.

The singer, whose real name is Mathangi Arulpragasam, had problems last year with her visa when she was refused entry to the US when she was going over to record material with Timbaland.

The visa problems have cropped up again and now she’s having to miss out on sharing the stage with Interpol, Bjork, Arcade Fire and the Beastie Boys.

Chali 2na goes solo

Chali 2na will be releasing a solo album following the split of Jurassic 5.

When the group split earlier this year, Soup of the group said “Some people here want their own shrine, their own thing. If that’s what you want, I say more power to you. I hope it works out for you – just don’t come up with lame excuses” and it now seems as though he could have aimed that at Chali 2na.

The album, Fish Outta Water, has been started with Commin Thru up on his myspace already. In related news, Cut Chemist has also been working a new album.

Method Man on drugs charges

Method Man was arrested on Thursday in New York after police found 30 grams of marijuana in his vehicle.

The Wu Tang rapper was originally pulled over because his license plates had expired but it is reported that the smell of marijuana was apparently immediately as he rolled down his window with a bag of it visible.

He admitted he had more bags under his seat and was then charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, criminal possession of marijuana, operating a motor vehicle under the influence and driving an uninspected motor vehicle. He was released on Friday pending a court hearing.
