Jay Z could be teaming up with Nas for an album.
Word on the always informed but ridiculously vague street is that the former President of Def Jam is planning on forming his own record label, Carter Music Group, which will see Jay team up with Warner Music Group’s head. The album to come from his label is rumoured to be an album full of duets with Nas called The Kings Of Hip Hop.

Glassjaw have revealed some details on their new album.
The follow up to 2002’s Worship And Tribute will reportedly be written, produced and engineered by guitarist Justin Beck with the band stating they have 7 songs finished and 4 to 6 “half-baked ideas”.

Jack White has spoken about his work on a project organised by Bob Dylan.
Dylan asked a number of musicians to write music for a set of unfinished lyrics by Hank Williams, with White recording You Know That I Know. The album is set to be released this year but that’s not all from White, who has said:
“There’s some other stuff I have coming out, but I can’t tell you about it all just yet. You’ll have to be patient!”
Portishead‘s new album is a “departure” from their previous albums.
Third, which is out on April 28th, will see some faster tempos from the band, with some tracks hitting 120bpms. Adrian Utley said of the new record, the first in 11 years:
“It sounds nothing like ‘Dummy’ or ‘Portishead’, but it’s definitely its older brother or sister. It’s the same mindset we’ve always had, only further down the road….There was never no Portishead. It was just we’d had enough, and we didn’t have any ideas.”
Spiritualized will make their come back on May 19th.
The group will release Songs In A&E on Spaceman Records and will precede that with a single, Soul Of Fire, which will be released on CD and digitally. The album is inspired by the serious illness suffered by Jason Pierce in 2005 which forced him to spend time in intensive care. You can also check the band out at the following dates in May:

The Hold Steady have completed recording on their fourth album.
The record is tentatively named Stay Positive and will see the band move into more diverse instrumentation with strongs, horns, harpsichord and a mandolin being used. There is no release date yet as the album still needs to be mixed and mastered, but expect it sometime this year.
Akon is in the limelight again.
The pipsqueak rapper was making an appearance at a shopping mall in Copenhagen when a fire alarm went off. 2,000 people who turned up at the 1,000 capacity mall were ushered out of the centre by police but began throwing bottles and rocks, with several injuries reported. Apparently the fire was a false alarm, unfortunately Akon’s career is not.
