Young Guns confirmed as FFAF support

British rock band Young Guns will accompany the band Funeral For A Friend on their ‘Casually Dressed And Deep in Conversations’ shows on July 22nd and July 23rd at Cardiff University and London Shepard’s Bush Empire.

The band who are set to release their debut album ‘All Our Kings Are Dead’ on 12th July 2010, have also played with the likes of Lostprophets and Taking Back Sunday, as well as being awarded with the Best New Band award in Kerrang! Magazines 2009 Reader’s Poll.

Wolfmother cancel festival dates

Australian rock band Wolfmother has, this week, cancelled their appearances at several summer festivals due to illness.

The band have cancelled their slots at Download festival (11th-13th June), T in the Park (9th-11th July) and Hard Rock Calling (25th-27th June). Wolfmother will be replaced by Killswitch Engage at this year’s Download festival and Swedish rocker’s The Hives at Hard Rock Calling.

Tribute: Dennis Hopper dies age 74

What a week it has been for celebrity deaths- rock and roll legend Ronnie James Dio, Paul Gray bassist of Slipknot, Gary Coleman of Different Strokes and it has emerged tonight that Hollywood legend Dennis Hopper has also passed leaving us with memories of his legendary career as an actor and director. The Easy Rider star had been battling prostate cancer and died at his home in Venice Beach this morning surrounded by friends and family.

Hopper loved caning it and was once quoted to say that “over-indulgence was a requirement for great artists” and once claimed he snorted lines of cocaine “as long as your arm every five minutes, just so I could carry on drinking … gallons” of alcohol.

He starred in many cult films such as Apocalypse Now, Blue Velvet, Rebel Without a Cause and True Romance also appeared as a guest on Damon Albarn’s Gorillaz album, enjoy this live clip from Harlem and celebrate the losses of people who have given a lot to the world of entertainment. RIP.

Trent Reznor gives away new band’s EP

Trent Reznor’s new band How To Destroy Angels will give away their debut release as a free download, the band have announced.

The band, which Reznor formed with his wife, will release a six track EP on June 1st which will be available from the bands website. The EP will then be released on CD on June 6th and on vinyl at a later date.

The tracklisting reads;

New Superchunk album gets a title

Superchunk have announced the title of their forthcoming album shall be Majesty Shredding.

This will be the band’s first release since 2001’s, Here’s To Shutting Up, with more details and tour dates expected to be announced soon.

Meanwhile, Superchunk were recently joined on stage by Les Savy Fav’s Tim Harrington at this weekend’s Primavera festival, as they performed Superchunk’s Precision Auto.

Isis plan split release with Melvins

Just when you thought Isis had disappeared from our lives for good, the band has announced plans to release a split with Melvins.

The as yet untitled record will be released through Hydra Head on July 13th, comprised of a new Isis track, a Japanese only release, and alternative versions of tracks from Melvins’ forthcoming album, The Bride Screamed Murder.

New Devo album ‘Something for Everybody’ rules!

There’s good news for Devo fans this morning as the new album titled ‘Something for Everybody‘ landed in our office and has been on repeat since. The classic 80s 4-piece have delivered another timeless pop record which once again will have you dancing and singing from first track Fresh. Other highlights on the album are Please Baby Please, Don’t Shoot, Mind Games, Human Rocket, Step Up, in fact there are many highlights on this 16 track return for the band that will always be in our top 10 of all time, so expect good times when it’s released on June 14th in the UK and June 15th in the US.

We will hopefully be meeting them for an interview in London when they visit in June, fingers crossed it all works out so we can bring you an inside scoop on ‘Something for Everybody’.

Grinderman announce new album + tour

Grinderman have announced they will release their second album in September, prior to a five date tour of the UK.

The record, aptly titled Grinderman 2, will be released on September 13th.

Meanwhile Nick Cave and co. will be playing the following dates;

Reading and Leeds reveal Lock Up stage

Reading and Leeds festivals have revealed the line-up for their lock-up and dance stages at this year’s event.

While the lock up stage will be headlined by Alkaline Trio and Bad Religion on Friday and Saturday respectively, Sunday’s Dance stage will be co-headlined by Roots Manuva and Magnetic Man.

A number of other great acts have also been added to the bill including Crossfire favourites Trash Talk, Cancer Bats and The Get Up Kids who all play the Lock Up Stage on Saturday.

Reading and Leeds festival takes place between August 27th – 29th.
