Travel update: Skateboarding in India

When you think of Mumbai in India it’s not difficult to remember the terror the country went through in 2008 when terrorists went on the rampage through the city centre killing over a hundred people. In 2011 normal practice has been resumed but there’s also some unexpected skateboard designs being reported from an art project that has spanned over many month’s until local woodcarvers deliver their take on transforming a lump of wood into ornamental but usable art objects.

In other Indian skate news, a brand new concrete park in Bangalore is taking shape thanks to the involvement of UK skater Nick Smith who you may remember from the Goan skate park project a few year’s ago. Nick is coordinating a large concrete park opening in Bangalore that is pretty much ready to go and will have its grand opening day on April 1st this year. The park packs a quirky design to keep travelers stoked on their trip so get in touch with Nick if you are looking to escape the UK for somewhere different this year, they have even just welcomed a fresh dump of boards, shoes and everything you need out there too this week. Get planning your mission.

SSS recently finished recording their forthcoming new album, which is due to be released in June on Earache Records. The new album, titled PROBLEMS TO THE ANSWER, was recorded at Whitewood Studios in the band’s home town of Liverpool and is produced by Rob Whitely along with SSS bassist Mark Magill.

Foxy from the band says “The title PROBLEMS TO THE ANSWER gives outspoken practical solutions to problems faced in everyday life. External factors shape not only today, but yesterday and into tomorrow. SSS attempts to provide answers – for better or worse – in our most vicious recording to date.”

Fat Mike from NOFX opens Vegas Punk House

I love Fat Mike from NOFX. He is the over 40 anti-music industry party spunker who can still get a rabble of kids beating each other up in a field whilst his band kick out those memorable 90’s tongue-in-cheek, punk rock hardcore leaps.

This week the frontman has turned a property he owns in Las Vegas into a holiday home “for adults that live like teenagers“. According to its website, the house sleeps ten people, features a games room, salt water pool cave hot tube, water slide, nine hole golf course, “a shitload of records“, plus a museum featuring “a small collection of punk memorabilia and strange punk relics“, though it adds of the museum: “there isn’t much to it“. If you are friends with him and want this experience then dial this number.

Eric-B.-Rakim-Follow-The-LeaderToday’s Tune of the Day was inspired by a facebook friend who woke up to this morning’s spring sunshine and clicked on this timeless classic to get her out of bed. It worked.

Eric B and Rakim did their darn best to change Hip Hop forever with help from producer Marley Marl and launched their fame from Long Island, New York City in 1988 with Paid in Full, a Hip Hop classic that still stands the test of time today. Follow the Leader dropped in July 1988 as the seminal follow-up to their debut which took this duo’s skills to another level.
