New Maverick skatepark opens in Haverfordwest

Welsh skateboarders welcomed another incredible skatepark this weekend as the first sessions at Haverfordwest skatepark in Pembrokeshire were officially open. Built by Maverick at a reported cost of £427,000 of lottery funding and almost six years of planning, this beast is now ready to skate and Maverick are very proud of the results. Maverick’s designer Ian Jennings spoke to us this week on his delight of finishing their biggest built to date:

“Haverfordwest Skatepark is a project that’s been a long time coming due to several generations of skaters involved in campaigning for it over many years. We’ve been involved with the Haverford Skatepark Association since the early days of Maverick and thanks to their passion and dedication they have overcome a multitude of obstacles put in their way and been successful in securing funding to deliver a really serious facility! It’s been an honour to help deliver such a comprehensive scheme. It’s the largest Maverick park to date and definitely one of our favourites. The build quality is second to none.

The park contains terrain for all styles and abilities – 2 bowls of different shapes with various hips and corners, linked by a volcano/spine, one 4&1/2ft with 6ft extensions and one 4&1/2ft with waterfalls to a pool style 6ft – 8ft deep end. There’s a ‘ditch’ section, jump-box and a big ‘north-shore’ style curved wall-ride/hip… a banked ‘amphitheatre’ with tiered ledges, and a long, spacious street section around 2 sides of the park with an array of ledges, banks, rails and many other unique features… too many to list! Suffice to say there’s something for everyone here and lines for miles and miles! There’s plenty of seating and spectator/rest areas out of the way of skatepark traffic and the scheme is floodlit until 9pm every day.

Pembrokeshire is a long way from anywhere but it’s a beautiful part of the country and now there is one more VERY good reason to visit! We really hope that everyone enjoys this fantastic park and are as stoked on it as we are!”

You can find the new park at Picton Fields, in Haverfordwest, Penbrokeshire, West Wales. Click here for a map.

Slayer: Red wine in coffin gift

Thinking of the perfect gift for your mosher mate? Fuck that, just buy this for yourself this Christmas, it pisses on Motorhead’s last effort. Cabernet Sauvignon served in a coffin? You can’t beat that.

“After a couple of Seasons in the Abyss, it has an undisputed attitude and a soft nose of dark berry fruits with oak and spicy nuances. Fresh fruitiness, smooth tannins and well structured with subtle notes of oak, showing true Divine Intervention. Best company for the wine comes as no surprise, enjoy it while headbanging, riffing or with food, friends and great music. Reign in Wine!”

The best Slayer/Booze related pun gets bragging rights…

Looks like the locals of New York have taken over today’s skate news so it’s fitting to hear that 5BORO have added Philly local Jimmy McDonald to the pro ranks. Philadelphia’s spots are ripped hard in this by the full team and put together by Chris Mulhern. Love it.
