Last Thursday Metallica played a beast of a set in Sydney, Australia that had James Hetfield’s daughter fully involved in the on-stage carnage.
Guitarist Kirk Hammett got a little carried away while playing ‘Seek and Destroy‘ and began wandering aimlessly around a monster stage, kicking the black balls that were scattered around. One of which, went flying directly into the face of the unsuspecting junior Hetfield.
Naturally, this video is overflowing with viral possibilities for obvious reasons. So what are you doing reading this last paragraph? Why haven’t you pressed play and posted this on Facebook yet? Why haven’t you remixed it with Bizzle’s Forward Riddim’ yet? Come on…
Earlier this year, Aphex Twin confirmed in an interview that since 2001’s Druqks he has recorded and essentially finished up to six albums worth of material. Unfortunately, in the same interview there was no sign of when the next release will actually happen.
This short video appeared online this week which features snippets of new material set to visuals that debuted at the London Electronic Dance Festival which almost literally blew our heads off earlier this year. What it signifies exactly remains uncertain, but after a collection of weird noises and twisted amen breaks that invokes the spirit of 90s rave in a way only AFX could achieve beautifully we’re left with a date – 12th March 2011.
Make of that what you will, but watch and listen to the AFX Seaside Specials blip below and get excited for something, hopefully soon.
Yesterday the undisputed king of party mash-ups Girl Talk topped the US Google search as he released All Day, his latest collection of hip-hop acapellas blended with nostalgic instrumentals and plenty of other re-contextualised musical treats.
Having just given it a full run through in the Crossfire HQ we are happy to confirm that it’s fucking awesome, as expected. As if this news couldn’t get any better, you can download it completely free from this website (which Girl Talk has subsequently apologised for how many server crashes he’s caused in what can only be described as the electronic equivilent of thousands of fans storming a stage) which is packed with a list of mirrors should the official link not work.
It has over 300 samples and will probably played at every house party in 2011. Get used to it now: click the cover art to get your hands on it.
This morning we were treated to lots of visual goodness from Antiz. Here we see some fresh footage some Aaron Sweeney and co. as Antiz hit up London’s finest chunks of concete.
See below for the goodness and then head over here for an interview feature with Antiz’ Julian Dykmans on the final chapter of their Eastpak Hobo Tour that went down in Belgium earlier this year, complete with another video edit… one that took months to fish out from a busted hard drive!
Last month we reported the design of the new Maverick Park set to be built in Emersons Green, Bristol early next year.
Today, Maverick have posted an animated video exploration of the new park’s design to whet your appetite for shredding in Spring next year. Looking good so far… we can only hope that the sparklers are actually going to be installed and programmed to go off every time someone lands a benihana.

This pulsating work of repetitive riff genius ingrains itself on your brain and does not let go. With more than a little in common with the likes of rock legends Janes Addiction, Middle Class Rut are poised to make a big impression on the rock scene with debut album ‘No Name, No Color’, from which this new single was taken. The band have been making waves for a while now, having already visited the UK several times with bands like Innerpartysystem and Circa Survive. They’ve also caught the ear of certain Radio 1 DJs and discerning fans of rock music won’t find it difficult to hear why this band’s fanbase in both the press and the general public has been quietly snowballing.
The music video follows this duo through a barren landscape and their relentless pacing matches the hypnotically relentless nature of the song. Rather than the repetition being a bore in this track, it creates an enthralling and addictive soundscape to which you’re really drawn into as a listener. Deep and dark, a tad on the depressing side but in a very determined-feeling way that gives the song a sense of resolve, this is a track you’ll find yourself humming in the back of your mind for days after hearing it. It’s almost inconceivable how a mere two-piece make such a full-on sound. But somehow they manage it.
Alexisonfire w/ Chickenhawk, The Computers
The Forum
11.11.10
What a bill. Alexisonfire played The Forum at about the same time last year but tonight is different. For one, the venue is ridiculously rammed full of bodies. Later in the evening, it’s a stretch to even see the bar, let alone get to it. It’s also a stellar line-up tonight with the Brits fighting their corner admirably as The Computers and Chickenhawk kick off proceedings with as much energy as their headlining Canadian counterparts. The Computers’ hardcore’d up rock’n’roll clearly intrigues the crowd and they yelp their way through an engaging set before the much hyped (and rightly so) Chickenhawk take to the stage. Rather on the darker side than either of the other bands tonight, the Hawk deluge a storm of dirgey riffs on an unsuspecting crowd. They seem slightly bewildered at the size of the venue but there’s no doubt that their loud sound was meant to fill such venues.
Alexisonfire are veterans of the UK scene by now and boy do we love them. Everyone in the venue’s attention is undivided throughout the band’s lengthy set. The band are on stage for at least an hour and a half and their enthusiasm knows no bounds. Vocalist George makes his way all the way up the steps to the upper level of the venue at one point. And bassist Chris writhes around on the floor like a worm on ecstasy several times throughout the night. A varied setlist sees Alexis traverse their extensive back catalogue, taking in tracks from their self-titled first album right through to latest EP track ‘Dog’s Blood’. And the quality doesn’t waiver. Every song sounds massive as George’s yelps and half-singing intertwine with Dallas Green’s silky smooth melodic vocals.
Such a hearty singalong has rarely been heard as the crowd join in at every opportunity. It also has to be said that Alexisonfire facilitate such group singing moments of brilliance with their fantastic incorporation of as many as ‘Woahs’ as possible into as many of their songs as possible. I’m not sure any other band could get away with making this device sound consistently brilliant. Cropping up in the encore, towards the end of the evening, ‘Accidents’ is the perfect example of this. Kenny from Moneen also pops up during the encore to help with some vocal duties looking like an excitable child. Overall, Alexisonfire put on one of the performances of their lives and everyone present is appreciative to the max.
The Texan four-piece responsible for Jason Dill’s Mosaic part being even more flowing than anyone could imagine, Spoon have released a new single today through Anti-Records.
Nobody Gets Me But You appears on Transference and the video was premiered earlier this morning (via DiS). Watch it below.
