Pedro Barros’ Propeller RAW Files

pedro_barros_skate_propeller_vans

I remember being blown away by his last trick at the premiere. The entire part was mental but the ender seemed monstrous. As usual the Brazilian destroys all terrain, flies like and eagle and is still only 20 years of age. Think about that for a second. Pedro Barros is a beast, get some of this in your day.

No Joy

‘Hollywood Teeth’
Mexican Summer

Keeping in check with 2013’s Wait to Pleasure, No Joy’s latest cut is awash with mighty shoegaze soundscapes and lurid vocal swirls. Kicking off with a wave of reverb and delay that crashes into your psyche at full force, the track’s spearheaded by frontwoman Jasamine White-Gluz’s breathy cry of “all I want is to be with you”.

It’s not all ethereal magic and choral delicacies here though, as No Joy switch up a gear midway through this belter, driving on a violent key change with a furious pulse. It’s no question that this would deliver a sincere punch in the live arena; a co-headline tour with Cheatahs which they just finished.

Due for release on June 8th via Mexican Summer, More Faithful is sure to satisfy your guitar rock craving just as much as a pining for shoegaze intricacies. Pre-order a copy here.

John Frusciante will no longer release music publically

john_frusciante

Despite having left his guitar behind in recent years to take a stroll down ambient lane, John Frusciante has revealed that he will no longer make music for commercial purpose or public consumption.

Following his split from Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2009 Frusciante released a number of electronic albums, but recently admitted he felt that “at this point, I have no audience” in an interview with Electronic Beats.

For the last year and a half I made the decision to stop making music for anybody and with no intention of releasing it“, Frusciante explains. “I felt that if I took the public into consideration at all, I wasn’t going to grow and I wasn’t going to learn.

At this point, I have no audience. I make tracks and I don’t finish them or send them to anybody, and consequently I get to live with the music. The music becomes the atmosphere that I’m living in. I either make really beautiful music that comes from classical, or I make music where the tempo is moving the whole time, and there’s no melodic or rhythmic center.

Frusciante’s last public venture came under the guise of Trickfinger, who he released a debut album under the same name as on April 7th. Hear John’s last cut below.

Duck Lane: New combi bowl opens in Bournemouth

Duck_Lane_bournemouth_new_skatepark_kinson_combi_bowl

If you have ever taken a trip down to Bournemouth for a day out skating then you will know that their scene is full of characters who frequent Kings Park. We’ve had some great days down there over the years so the news that a new park was being opened not far from there by Maverick was music to our ears, whose design and build on this new combi-bowl looks solid.

Duck Lane has been built as part of a new Mansell Homes housing development in Kinson, put together by Bournemouth Council. It consists of a unique combi-bowl and uncompromising design as explained by Maverick’s Russ Holbert who has been working on the project:

“The design has a retro feel with endless, flowing lines. At the top end, the facility features a micro clover bowl with a superfun, triple 8 pumpline. The clover bowl opens out into a unconventional snake run with offset hips and links up with a large bowled mini ramp. The walls of the mini ramp and snake run have been designed to direct riders straight down into the pool which is 9ft deep and features two monster hips. We are so stoked on this project and just so happy to have been a part of it. Hats off to all involved!”

One of the locals involved to make this happen was Richard ‘Geordie’ Inskip, whose input working alongside the council was key:

“Being stoked with my involvement of this park is an understatement. This is by far the most american style bowl I have skated in England. The design is amazing and the lines bring concrete surfing to a whole new level, saying that, so does the build quality. Maverick have just lifted the bar for UK skateparks. If this is what we can expect from new parks, UK skating is about to enter a whole new dimension.”

Duck Lane’s new combi-bowl opened this weekend, timed perfectly for the summer months ahead. Note that the site around the bowl is newly seeded, so if you visit, make sure you respect the site and clean up after yourselves.

We will leave you with a quote from Maverick‘s Ian Jennings who sums up this new feat perfectly: “It has tons of lines, it’s progressive and accessible – yet also really gnarly, fast and above all, LOADS of FUN!” Start planning your trip as this area has a variety of parks to skate.

You can find the park just off the Ringwood Rd (A348) on Holloway Avenue, Kinson, BH11 9JS. Directions and map here.
