Gumball 3000

Hey peeps! Its that special time of year…GUMBALL 3000! Woohoo! For those of you guys, that ain’t sure what Im bangin on about, it is an 8 day rally around the World! Mostly illegal, but over the past couple of years the police have warmed up, and been known to occasionally escort the Gumballers’ safely and speedily to their destinations.

The coppers have been trying to butter up their reputation by this year having their very own Car (driven by beer-bellied leathered up Mr.Copper ~ scary!)

This year some of the riders include:

Bam Margera & Ryan Dunn – 2004 Lamborghini Gallardo

Miguel Escamilla & Anthony ‘Tony’ Hawk & Mike Vallely & Rich Van Every – 2006 Jeep Cherokee

Pink, The Cheeky girls, Westwood, some dudes in gimp masks, and rumors say…Paris Hilton (which I doubt her princess ass would cope with!) and er…Pancho from Dirty Sanchez!

It’s Saturday afternoon, and before the rally kicks off, Press and Paparazzi are filming, and documenting each inch of gleaming streamlined metal. There was something for everyone from Volkswagen Campers’, to Mustangs, to vintage Beauties (Cheverolet Corvettes’).

This year sponsor’s included: Vans, DC, Top Trumps, and Ministry of Sound?*Yikes* to mention a few. T-mobile sponsors had their very own racing golf cart, in which they managed to squeeze 3 half-naked babushkas, clad in butt sporting undies and stiletto boots! Enough to make the Cheeky girls blush!

You can track the 131 teams here over the last leg:

King Of The Ramp 2006

The State of The Works has fallen into disrepute. As fashion crime climbs to an all time high and the youth are swung by the charm of fake gold and jailbait sex, skateboarders are left to fare for themselves on the wild streets.

A council has been called on May 6th to elect a new King of the Park who shall reign over the Leeds skate scene for many moons to come (Read: Free entry for a year!).

The election starts at 2pm and noble whiz plank riders will be rewarded for any mastery of their joust. A court jester (Bob Sanderson?) and his BEAR (Habgood?) will be present to preside over proceedings and provide entertainment.

If you’re interested in checking this out, then make sure you mosey on over to the website, which can be found here.

Skatesonic – Music To My Ears…

Ever wondered what a slappy really sounds like? Or perhaps the orchestra of urethane and aspalht is more your cup of tea..? Well, I just read about this on skateinfusion.com (Thanks!) and had to drop the news seeing as Crossfire deals with both music and skateboarding.

So, the Skatesonic is the brainstorm of two artist/musicians called Cobi Van Tonder and Sylvie Parent. The hi-tech board is a musical device that records the sounds of a good thrash around and composes the shred-sled notes into music.

With sensorial devices placed along the wheelbase and inside each truck, the skater can compose a melody that corresponds to the path he or she has chosen, then mix it or listen back.

Obviously the Skatesonic is just a project for the moment, but who knows? Could the I-pod/MP3 finally get budged by this new instrument?

Tea With Daewon And Haslam

If you want to catch a glimpse of the future, and ridiculous board control, then look no further than this duo: Chris Haslam and Daewon Song. The Almost tag team have teamed up for a new DVD that will blow your minds.

Cheese and Crackers is a skate-off between the Haslam and Song à la Rodney Vs. Daewon of yesteryear EXCEPT this jam takes place on a mini ramp with a whole heap of junk thrown in the mix for combos, and ‘Never Been Done’ stuff.

Then there are the multiple extras featuring Lewis Marnell, Almost’s newest amateur, a Dirt board section between Chris and Cooper Wilt, Friends and more. Just click on the picture to the right and realise that your fakie mayday just isn’t cutting it…

Xynthetic Support

Crossfire is all about the local scene, so when we got a message from the guys at Xynthetic we jumped to the chance to find out more. Basically, this Bristol/Leicester family do custom hand-painted graphics on skateboards in a bid to express themselves, promote skating and have a laugh.

They offer one-off commissions and design series options – the first is self-explanatory whereas the second is made in multiple examples.

It’s a small unit but interest is growing. Xynthetic wanted us to know that they have recently put together a team of Leicester skaters to rep the goods – Alex ‘Pone’ Fowkes, Sam ‘SPT’ Taylor and James ‘Wilko’ Wilkinson and you can check out a video of these guys by clicking here.

Crossfire will be delving more in depth with the Xynthetic crew very soon, so keep posted.

Mexico Goes Mad For Mega Ramp

Adrenaline can be a hard habit to kick and doesn’t Danny Way know it! Danny recently took his mega ramp and a handful of top Vert riders off to Mexico City for a Mega Ramp contest.

Not shy of pushing the limits, Danny got busy with a ridiculous backflip , whilst Bob Burnquist settled for the frontflip. The ten-story high drop in chasm leap had to be shut down due to thunder and lightning, but footage of all the madesss that went down South of the Border will soon be posted on Danny’s official site: www.dannyway.com Ay caramba!

Yesterday’s Heroes

Everybody talks about the good ol’ days, them good ol’ days… Well www.flowerpothead.com has a sweet video clip up on their site that really does highlight those ‘Goo ol’ days’.

The New York based site has a clip posted of OG rippers Gino Ianucci, Keith Hufnagel and legend Keenan Milton (R.I.P.) to name a few before the ups and downs od skate-atardom plucked them off the urban vine.

This video is definitely worth checking out as a reminder of our roots, and also what we sometimes take for granted. Never forget.

Little Rulers

Little Ruler shows us that it is never to early to start riding the stuntwood.

The toddler attire was the brainchild (Ha! What a pun!) of skate legend Jeff Kendall and his wife Maureen who, after the birth of their two sons, were disappointed to see no-one supplying an adequate wardrobe for a family with deep roots in skateboarding.

Starting small a few years ago, Little Ruler has grown up and gained respect, much like the kids it kits out.
