New Science skaters announced

Science Skateboards have added two new skaters to their team.

Paul Regan is the first and has just done some filming for his section for the forthcoming Sidewalk and for a Story Store vid as well as getting some photos done for his Haunts interview in Sidewalk – Busy boy!

The second is Joe Sivell, who you might have seen on Curb Surfers on Sky not long ago. If you don’t know, then you’d better get to know by clicking the image on the right. He came third in last year’s DVS “Sponsor Me” comp and has just shot a First Light for Sidewalk. Not too shabby that!

Meanwhile Gardens to be flattened?

I was wallking to HQ this morning when my woofer stopped for a piss on a tree and this letter was pinned to it.

It looks like the rumours of this land being developed by cash making corperate types is true. Another skate park is to be taken out of the borough so that the fat cats can get their 6 figure sums into their pockets and it cannot go ahead. This green space needs to stay for 2 reasons: Firstly the community need green areas to be able to relax in and secondly, kids need to have somewhere free to skate to keep them off the streets. The crime levels in this area of London are already super high, this will only fuel more.

Write protest emails by contacting councillor Pat Mason on cllr.Mason@rbkc.gov.uk but make sure you are concise, detailed and polite only please.

Got Wood?

If you think you have, and are possibly worthy of being crowned King Of Wood, then get a mosey on down to France for the King Of Wood competition in Rouen. Carhartt have helped organise the event in which Europe’s cream of the skateboarding crop will comp out for a beastly 12,000 Euros cash prize. ZING!

The ball will start rolling on the 6th July, where all are welcome to compete in a 60 man fight to the death (not really, they’ll be a runs and a jam format, as well as best trick comps in the superb Rouen Skatepark however!). The top 5 will make it through to the King Of Wood to compete alongside Europe’s finest Ams and Pros.

The price of entering King Of Wood stands at 30 Euros, unless you make it through King Of Am (which is free, but limited to just 60 people, so register quickly!).

For more information and registration for the event,

Phone: +33(0)9 54 18 31 47

Best In The West

On Saturday June 23rd, Epic Skatepark will be holding a Best In The West competition, appealing to those who choose to pump around transition, and those who prefer to assault the more horizontal obstacles.

In association with Creature, Indy and Ride there will be a mini ramp comp for anyone who likes to carve it up like Greg Nowik all day long. Where as anyone who flows ledges, rails and manuals in lines as well as Paul Shier does for a living should seriously consider dropping by for the Best Line comp, sponsored by A Third Foot, Karma, Plan B and Ideal Skateboards.

Lots of prizes up for the taking, so make sure you’ve packed the session in your bag, oh and the £6 entry fee of course! The bomb drops at 4pm, then it’s nothing but boom boom shake shake the room all evening.

In other Epicly Related news, the furious Toy Machine will be docking at the skatepark during the UK Tour on August 1st. With the whole team down, and plenty of free stuff up for grabs this shit is going to be BANANAS. That’s b-a-n-a-n-a-s.

Keep posted here and at www.myspace.com/epicskateparksbrum for all the info.

Plan B hit the UK

The Plan B Team turned up to the UK and went out with a bang on the last leg of their European Tour!

With a select few catching the team at Southbank on Friday night, the best was saved for Milton Keynes with tech skills being dropped in front of a packed house at the Buszy from a strong UK contingent and namely Paul Rodriguez who stole the show.

Next up was a visit to Saffron Walden’s new Dreamland built concrete skatepark which has by far THE best finish you will see in the UK right now. As soon as we rocked up to the place the silence was unbeatable. People’s jaws literally were on the floor at how good this park looks.

The team arrived to to about 2000 people crammed behind metal fences and once warmed up, bangers went down. Colin McKay and Danny Way enjoyed a lengthy street session with P-Rod, PJ Ladd and their team manager who put on as much of a good show as the rest of them!

With Pat Duffy still recovering from a serious leg injury, Ryan Gallant crocked with a knee injury, Sheckler having to fly home early for his exams and Brian Wenning at home, the rest of the team stood in and gave all. Get down to this park though next week as it is somehting else.

Expect an interview on this website soon with Pat Duffy and also 2 of the Dreamland builders as they reflect on building the Saffron Walden park. Footage from the demo will also drop later this week in a feature. But for now watch the footage from the teams Hamburg demo in Germany here.
