This bit of latst minute news came in from Luke at the Tate. For the first time skateboarders will be skating in the turbine hall of Tate Modern to create a work of art. This is part of UBS Openings: The Long Weekend, an annual festival which is running from this weekend.
Los Angeles-based artist Jennifer West will create a new film live in the gallery by uniting an unlikely mix of ink, film strips and skateboarding. In this unique event, titled Skate the Sky Melon Grab Film, West will build on her previous experiments with everyday materials such as pepper spray or Axe body cologne used to physically manipulate celluloid.
West will stage a performance in the Turbine Hall for which a team of skate-boarders will traverse ink-covered film strips, their wheels scraping into the celluloid and marking their movements in complex and psychedelic patterns. This live event will be followed by a screening of the films created plus a selection of West’s earlier films.
Performance, Friday 22 May,West End, Turbine Hall 19.00 – 20.30
Screening, Saturday 23 May, Starr Auditorium, 19.00 – 20.30

You just can’t stop this dude right now…looking forward to the Koston grill.
He’s one of the nicest guys in skateboarding and he has now been welcomed to the wonderful family of Etnies. Devine Calloway is now on the team and if you click here you can watch a short clip of his happiness. If you want to go through the archives back to 2005 there’s an introduction interview of him on this site.

Death skateboards riders Lee Dainton and Dan Cates fill a void on a Sunday afternoon whilst it pisses with rain down in Wales. Fire and urethane is obviously the answer, watch the clip below for more. In other Death news, the team have been in Madrid of late and blogged over at Sidewalk right now. Click here for that.
Also, Harlow’s favourite tattooed man-slag Monk is recovering from broken bones and is taking the morphine for the crew this week. The Death blog says that.. ‘He is in good spirits though, even ripping a classically timed fart in the ambulance mans face literally 3 mins after the break, then laughed/screamed his way to hospital.
“No matter what happens, there is always time for a fart” – Monk.
Get well soon mate!
Element seem keen to tease the world’s skateboard media for their highly anticipated SOLE movie that is being stitched together right now. Here’s another of those annoying teasers, it does what is says on the tin.
