James Holman and Ali Drummond’s new short film Youth of Yangon is available to download this week. This 13 minute production documents the emerging skateboarding community in Myanmar and the struggles they face pursuing their passion.
The film was chosen as part of the Official Selection at the 2013 Newport Beach Film Festival in Los Angeles and screened in Yangon for one week with the crew present thanks to support from the British Council of Myanmar. “My favourite part of filming this edit was going to Philadelphia with Chris Mulhern. It was just the two of us skating every day for ten days. It was super simple; we got along really well and had the same visual ideas and then it was just a case of skating till late every day with the locals. A perfect set up.”

This edit filmed and edited by Thomas Davis (and additional filming by Keeaun Jones) features AJ Porter, Ben Pateman, Bill Emmanouilidis, Kane Pawlina, Keeaun Jones and Mike Stimson up against the annual challenges based around Essex hot spots.
