IKEA rolls out a skateboard
You know the score. It’s pissing down with rain outside, it’s a Bank Holiday day off and you are beckoned to walk around IKEA by your partner to not find what you went there for in the first place, to then return home with one of those plants you didn’t actually need. Well at least from today you may bump into their first attempt at making a skateboard as you trudge round the store, wondering why you left the house in the first place.
They have rolled out a new SPÄNST collection, designed by a surfer from California called Chris Stamp who says on his new range:
Quality was their first focus. “We worked hard on finding a supplier that we knew met our standards. At the same time, I started thinking about what kind of board we wanted to make. It was important to me that it was accessible. I believe we ended up with something in between a longboard and a more technical board.”
This is by far the coolest thing to happen to skateboarding since the sport was announced for 2020 Olympics. Expect the skateboard to come in a flatpack with parts missing and ridiculous tools that never seem to work.
