If you live anywhere near Manchester, make sure you check out Peter Rayner‘s exhibition of skate-related art over at Projekts skateshop on Friday 16th February 7-9pm.
Apparently there’s a some 70% proof Jamaican rhum that needs drinking!

Oh dear. Two of Britain’s rawest riders and good friends, Nic Zorlac and Marc Churchill both suffered some nasty injuries this month.
Zorlac managed to slip off his griptape at a recent Epic Skatepark Jam in Brum and is now uncomfortably in plaster tending to a broken arm and Churchill is resting up in hospital after a nasty car accident left him with broken ribs amongst other injuries.
All at Crossfire wishes both skaters a speedy recovery – the UK skate scene will simply not be the same without the pair of them.
If you’re tired of waiting for deadlines to finalise and need to get your name out there, then the promo is your best friend. Zoo York have recently re-shuffled their roster and it’s pivotal that everyone recognizes who some of the new rippers are.
Welcome to Zoo York City is a 10 minute promo that introduces us to Aaron Suski, Ron Deily, Anthony Shetler, Brandon Westgate, Lamare Hemmings, Matt Miller, and more familiar faces, Zered Bassett, Donny Barley, Forrest Kirby and Kevin Taylor.
I won’t beat around the bush and make comparaisons with the Zoo York of yesteryear because there aren’t any turntabilists or mixtapes in sight. But, the essential aspect of Zoo York- the East Coast shredding – is still present and that sure serves up a healthy dose of stoke.
The DVD kicks off with a tribute to Zoo York OG Harold Hunter who regretfully passed away. Zoo filmer RB Umali is busy wrapping up a special tribute video for Harold, so stay tuned. The trailer is in the bonus features. That aside, this DVD opens to the wailing tunes of AC/DC screaming about feeling safe in New York City. I must admit that this is a rather bizarre choice of track for such an ‘urban’ company, but times are a-changing and Zoo has changed for the better.
A montage ensues highlighting Donny Barley, Forrest Kirby, Ron Deily, Zered Bassett, Kevin Taylor (never thought I’d see him skating to AC/DC!), Lamare Hemmings and Matt Miller. Matt’s part from another East Coast video, Few And Far Between is also included in the bonus features, and that’s wicked because Matt’s a sweet street technician. My favourite trick from the first montage is a toss up between Lamare’s massive frontside shoveit or Forrest’s backside 360.
The next section announces a formal introduction to the newest additions to the team- Brandon Westgate, Anthony Shetler and Aaron Suski. Jay-Z hollas in the background as the trio go on a mission to kill each spot they skate. Brandon boasts some big pop for a youngster and his 360 flip over the hubba is a sure sign of great things on the event horizon.
Anthony Shetler doesn’t hold back either and skates a good variety of spots. His biggest moves are reserved for handrails though with some deadly serious smith grinds and kickflip backside tailslides. The last part goes to Aaron Suski with some heavy Led Zeppelin synchronising his all-terrain assault through the East Coast and abroad. Aaron is a powerhouse and hopefully Zoo York will help him get more of his footage out because you can never have enough.
So, for a 10 minute promo, Zoo York’s Welcome to Zoo York City is pretty tight and jam-packed with good footage. A new full length video will definitely establish who’s running things from out East. This is just a taster.
You’ll be stoked to know that this promo is downloadable if you sign up for Zoo York podcasts here!

The Works is hosting yet another stellar event on Saturday 10th March from midday to 8pm.
We are the Champions is a 5 man team event divided into categories- mates, brands and shops. Each team will battle it out with MC Bob Sanderson screaming abuse at them all day.
Extra Brucie bonus points will be given to all those who dress up and make fools of themselves. It’s £10 admission with cash prizes for the brand teams and prizes for everyone else. Be there or be square!
After last year’s success, the territorial skate dispute heads north once more.
The event will take place over the weekend of 21st-22nd April, Saturday at Transition Extreme in Aberdeen, and Sunday at Unit 23 in Dumbarton.
Keep an eye on Skateboard Scotland for more developments. Check this trailer to get your Irn Bru pumping.
Well, its about 20 years too late, but i guess the next generation of rippers from Surrey’s St Helier, Sutton and Merton area will finally get a skate park to shred!
I spent all of my years skating the streets of this area, making our own backyard ramps in disused garages and generally having to travel into town for a sesh unless Fairfields or Worcester Pk was on the agenda for the day, so it’s great to see that locals finally have a spot.

The parks website reports that “….all the ramps and tarmac are in place. All that remains is to finish surfacing with the top layer of Skatelite. The quality is very impressive, with transitions looking perfect for beginners and experts”.
Hopefully the skatelite will resist petrol bombing from the local chavs so we can actually go and christen this park when it’s live! Well done to all involved!

Kevin McKeon alias Meanwhile Kev literally dropped in on skateboarding and lay many a transition to waste. My first encounter with Kev was via an internet chatroom – NOTHING devious or dirty! – just regular skate banter and tittle-tattle.
If anyone was down for a session or willing to squeeze into a crusty Ford Mondeo that failed it’s MOT for the cause, it was Kev. Once footage started to trickle through the wires, and eye witness accounts testified, the legend of Meanwhile Kev was etched in stone. Crossfire caught up with Mr. McKeon prior to another rendez vous with a taildrop or roll-in from hell.
10. Number 10 strikes like Big Ben, so describe a typical day for yourself?
I usually wake up feeling a bit rough, I try to get up before midday and then I ring up a few people to see if there are any sessions happening. Then it’s a downhill skate to the local train station and go to wherever! I skate until I can’t skate anymore and then just settle down for a night of drinking and fuck off back to mine or a mates and then fall asleep! Wake up again the next day and do the same!
9. Keeping track of time with number 9, how long have you been practicing the skateboard art?
I started skating in Summer 2002, so 4 and a half years now. I managed to blag bits and bobs off of my mates like a set of trucks and a deck and some wheels, I put it all together and rode that for ages until it fell to bits!
8. Number 8 is what’s on your plate, so what do you do besides skateboarding?
Not too much really, I go to a 6th form in the sticks and I have to do a fair bit of work with that, after that’s finished I just go out skating and get drunk, just taking the piss and partying! Slagging off mates for no reason at all is pretty fun too!
7. 7 rhymes with Kevin, so why do people call you Meanwhile Kev?
Well I used to only skate Meanwhile a lot and my names Kev so that kind of stuck. Also because of that fucking sidewalk forum and all that.
6. New for number 6, what are your favourite tricks?
I can’t really get tech, so I just settle for just trying to do simple tricks on hard things, or tricks that feel good. Long frontside grinds on concrete feel amazing! Anything where you have to smack your tail like bodyjars, they feel sick too! Blasting big airs always feels good!
5. Down for a dive in at number 5, where’s the best place to skate?
Anywhere north of Birmingham really! I don’t really like skating in London too much apart from Romford and Harrow, as people there usually have different atmospheres at those kind of places and just seem like real people who skate for the fun of it. Most places in London you seem to get people who are really fake and don’t act like themselves at all. I’m not really too into that.
4. Number 4 is for the dancefloor, what constitutes a good night out?
I suppose just going to a good bar or club really, with drinks flowing, good music and women I suppose! A bit of drunken antics always livens things up! All those things go down in the good books!
3. is for free, so how did you get sponsored?
Johnny ( the owner of halfpipe skateshop) saw me skating vert at Bay 66 a couple of years back and probably felt sorry for me seeing how I was dressed and decided to hook me up I guess! To be honest, back then I didn’t really deserve it at all and was just lucky that he was there. Then the others just came along from just sticking at skating and travelling about.
2. Number 2 represents your crew, who do you skate with on the regular?
I’ve been hitting up Romford and Harrow a bit lately with Aaron Sweeney and Awadh from down here. I meet up with Cov Sid a lot as well, he was down here last weekend actually and we just hit up all those kind of 70’s parks just sinking beers and falling over a lot! It’s rad! I skate with Ollie Tyreman quite a lot as well when I go up North, he sorts me out with a place to sleep and lifts and all that!
1. And finally, in at the pole position, the questions on everybodies lips is, what made you want to roll in on the extension at the Works?
I couldn’t really work out the line to get enough speed to get right out of the top. I could only drop into it, rolling in seemed like the next thing to do I suppose. After rolling into it, I got the line clocked out and it just flew me back up there
And now you get a chance to shout you any sponsors or thanks!
I want to thank Adam and Toby at Karma Skateboards, Nick Zorlac for Death Urethane, Powley for flowing me Vans shoes, Johnny and all at Halfpipe and Zac for Crossfire Clothing and for this Countdown. Also anyone that has sorted me out with a beer, place to sleep, lift, bit of product or anything like that! Cheers!
