The Who’s future in doubt

The Who’s Pete Townshend has cast doubt over the band’s future after a recurrence of his tinnitus problem.

Speaking with Rolling Stone the guitarist revealed that if the problem persists, the band will be forced to call it a day, adding, “I can’t really see any way around the issue.”

Townshend will test a new in-ear monitoring system during the band’s Teenage Cancer Trust gig next week (February 30th), as he attempts to solve the issue caused by years of exposure to high volume.

Biggin Hill’s new Clover Bowl

Biggin Hill in Kent is generally famous for its annual air show so it’s good to see that the tradition will continue over the years with the addition of this new Clover Bowl that has just been completed. It’s not often you get to skate these classic designs anymore but Wheelscape who are the design and builders of this project decided that the South were in need of something different.

The bowls are assorted sizes starting at 4ft in the shallows, 5ft 8″ for the mid and the deepest coming in at 7ft with large steel coping plus there’s also some steps, manny pad and ledges around the bowl. Now this is built, those with cars up for a full day out could quite easily skate here, Crawley and Dartford in the same day. Spring cannot come soon enough.

The Spill Canvas

Taken from the band’s recent ‘Abnormalities’ EP, ‘Gateway Drug’ is classic Spill Canvas. Lilting guitars, brooding lyrics and a killer melody that you just can’t kick out of your head. Vocalist Nick Thomas pulls at the heartstrings with the range of emotion conveyed through a mix of silky smoothness and gravelly aggression.

Along with the band’s trademarked moves (yes, a little carefully positioned swearing never hurt anyone), this track features a rather countrified picked-out riff interspersed within the standard radio-friendliness of this tune. Rather than lifting the song, it acts as a dark groove re-iterating the ominous themes in the lyrics.

The Spill Canvas know how to craft a song but they always find that bit extra to take it out of the realms they’ve already tried and tested. They’ll never be ones to break all the rules but the beauty of their songwriting and glimmers of originality within their music mean that this is a band who surely have an extensive and successful career ahead of them. Tunes like ‘Gateway Drug’ can be identified with and creep into your psyche slowly but surely until they are a part of you.

Winegums.

New Liars Video

Liars have released a new video for Scissor, the opening track from their recently released 5th album Sisterworld.

The noisy New York City trio has been known to radically change their sound over the years, but Scissor finds the band in familiar indie-rock territory.

Check out the stunning new video below, which plays out like a gripping sea adventure.
