Corgan on new Pumpkins

Billy Corgan has shed some light on the new Smashing Pumpkins album via a myspace blog. He said:

“This year for us will see a new album of songs and a world tour of tears, and we truly look forward to playing again for fans young, old, and missed. So yes, tunes are being dusted off, while others are being asked to kindly submit to an upstart millennia and all it’s asking. When we opened the lid on this music box, we were pleasantly surprised at the music that played: familiar yet unknown, welcoming but not sentimental … and that is all we can ask”.

There is no word on which label it’ll be coming out on or what the release date is.

RJD2

RJD2 has wowed hip hop fans for years, with his solo albums Deadringer and Since We Last Spoke, his album with Aceyalone and his work in Soul Position with Blueprint. Without doubt a talented beatmaker, RJ recently left his previous solo home, Def Jux, and signed to XL. And with a new label, comes a new album, The Third Hand which is due in March.

This track, Beyond The Beyond, is taken from the forthcoming album and once again show how versatile RJ is, whilst still keeping to his hip hop roots. The track is catchy, bouncy and has serious lasting power in your head – I defy you to not be singing this whilst making your next cuppa.

His ability for song composition is second to none and I can’t wait for this album to drop, it’s gonna be huge.

Mars Ill

After having their album Pro Pain put back for a couple of years due to legal wrangles, Mars Ill wanted to be able to give their fans something immediate, despite it being the same year as Pro Pain was [finally] put out.

And so the album Old Ironsides was made available by the group to say thank you for the waiting and the continued support and with it coming in a rustic envelope with wax seal, you know it’s had a lot of effort put into it.

Mars Ill are, without a doubt, the most under-rated group in hip hop and have always done things consistently and to an incredible standard. Dust’s beats are always a joy to listen to, with his big booming drums and bluesy samples and as always Manchild’s lyrics are a spiritually intense and heartfelt as ever. This track, Learning Me, is a beautiful reminder of things that can’t always be perfect and is a great indication of the rest of the record. Brilliant.
