Epitaph have announced a new signing – Our Last Night.
The New Hampshire based screamo outfit are planning to release their debut album, produced by Steve Evetts, next spring. The five piece have released two EPs – We’ve Been Holding Back and Building Cities From Scratch, and were invited to the label by owner Brett Gurewitz who said:
“From the very first note of the demo I was blown away by the sophistication of their writing and the technical playing which belies their young age…Add to that the control and range of Matt’s stellar singing voice and I was sold.”

Something to warm your hearts on this frosty day… San Diego emo/screamo upstarts Finch have patched up their differences to reform, and are due to play their first show on Thanksgiving.
The band initially split in Feb 2006, just months after the release of their much anticipated but ultimately disappointing second album. Following the split frontman Nate Barcalow went on to form Cosmonaut, and brings bandmates Drew Margoliese and Daniel Wonacott on drums and bass respectively to the reunited Finch, replacing Marc Allen and Derek Doherty.
Speaking to Alternative Press Alex Linares assured fans that this wasn’t just a one off gig, and they’d be finch for ‘more than just one night!’. UK fans will have to wait and hope that Finch make it back over to our shores..

Soulwax played Nation in Liverpool this weekend and fucking destroyed the place with their full-on combination of hard rock excess coupled with the dizzying euphoria of dance music. But once they had finished playing ‘Teachers’ the security at the venue who were keeping people about a meter away from the stage started pushing people and a girl fell from the stack so Soulwax stopped playing and words were exchanged as the bouncers got heavy handed.
Before you knew it, a bouncer stormed the stage and pushed the drummer over into his drumkit, then loads of people appeared from behind the stage 2 try and sort the mess out whilst the crowd went ballistic and this happened!
Ten years is quite a long time really. Ten years ago from now, Tony Blair had just come into power promising all sorts, Biggie was shot dead, Princess Di died and Nintendo brought out the N64. A long time has passed since then but one thing that has remained a constant since all those events took place is the continued brilliance of Big Dada.
The label was started by hip hop journalist Will Ashon as an imprint of the ever-popular and boundary pushing Ninja Tune and made sure that everyone knew it wasn’t a label for British hip hop, it was a British label which had hip hop on it. In the ten years it has been going, Big Dada has put out amazing record after amazing record and this DVD is a testament to that fact.
A 30 minute documentary which features Diplo, Mike Ladd, Juice Aleem, Roots Manuva, TTC, Ty and more talking about why they love their home label is an interesting and informative watch allowing the artists to express both their gratitude for being given a chance to shine and also their feelings on why the label has thrived so much.
It’s not just the documentary that you get with this DVD however, you get every single video ever released by the label, around 30 in all, for your viewing pleasure. See Roots Manuva go back to school for Witness (1 Hope), Infinitive Livez‘ Adventure Of A Lactating Man [if you’ve not seen this, get ready for weirdness] and other classic joints. As if that wasn’t enough, there is also a half hour megamix by System-D 128 of the videos which packs a real punch.
Big Dada has gone from strength to strength in its 10 years and the signs on this brilliant DVD are that there is a hell of a lot more to come. Happy Birthday BD, long may you continue!
