Vanilla Ice released from jail

Vanilla Ice has been released from jail after being held for allegedly pushing his wife.

The rapper, whose real name is Robert Van Winkle, was taken into custody last week after a domestic incident in the couple’s home in Florida. Reports claimed that the rappers wife rang emergency services claiming she had been hit and kicked during an argument, but later said he only pushed her.

Anyway, this news story is just an excuse to post this legend of culture:

This is the 2nd full-length release from Spanish nutcases Proclamation. They rule…I dunno if they are black war or death metal, but what I do know is both of their albums are amazing. Messiah Of Darkness And Impurity is seriously heavy. The riffs are killer and you get nothing short of total war brutality from this release brought to you courtesy of the impressive Nuclear War Now Records who have packaged this album for $5 alongside an amazing Vinyl version that comes with crazy photo’s and other stuff that really stops you from wanting to download this. Take note you bunch of tits who believe “the record industry is dead” – no, commercial music is dead, metal is so dead it lives and breathes.

I really wanna see this band live, they’re in the same sort of vein as Revenge or Blasphemy so I imagine they kill it, or you. The song titles are correct, you don’t get much better than ” Unholy Wine of Fornication” and you will will have to look far and wide to find another band that huck more bullet belts than Rambo. If you don’t like this album or think its too heavy you’re a fucking fanny and know nothing about metal. This is what metal is all about….they’re so sick. Go on the internet and buy it now!!! NOW!!!

New Santogold video

Santogold will be releasing L.E.S. Artistes as a single.

The song was previously released on a limited 12″ with Creator but will now see an official release in preparation for her album Santogold, out on May 12th. The album features MC Spank Rock and has production from the likes of Switch and Diplo. Santogold will also be playing London’s Scala on June 3rd. Check out the video for L.E.S. Artistes below:

+44 working on new album

+44 are working on their new album.

The band, who were rumoured to be splitting up, have issued a statement through frontman Mark Hoppus saying:

“For everyone like me who has been wondering what’s going on with the +44’s, here’s the deal. This whole time we’ve been continuing to write and demo ideas on our own. The only thing is we’ve been waiting for the label to fund the recording, and this just came through.

I understand everyone wondering what’s the deal, and believe me a lot has happened that I haven’t posted the minutia of…thanks for the support and interest and know that we’re here working as always, and as always we’re creative people with a lot of ideas and energies. But nothing is closer to our hearts than recording our own music.”

The Teenagers – Live

A night of contrasts for the French synthpop group, as they took to the stage at Bush Hall after some recent rebooking of venues. One guitarist in a ‘I Love Fall Out Boy’ tshirt, the bassist in an AC/DC one, it’s hard to know what to make of this band from the start.

Originally formed as a joke on MySpace by friends three years ago, things have moved on quickly and The Teenagers found themselves recording their debut album ‘Reality Check‘, released last month, and a string of gigs across the world. They have a die-hard following of young fans, who sang along to tracks ‘Love No’, ‘Fuck Nicole‘ and ‘Feeling Better‘, throwing hands in the air and dancing like, well, teenagers.

Having said that, the average age of the crowd was in its 40’s, so it made me wonder if they’d turned up expecting some kind of Serge Gainsborough style, French-accented, spoken word singing about love, women, booze, drugs and casual sex. Well they got part of that.

Frontman Quentin Delafon pointed angular hands around the glitterball lit room, elbows tucked in like he was trying to dance whilst holding a tray of drinks, and spoke/sang about the sordid lifestyle of fucking your step-sister, girls who he’s going to kill for stealing his Jazzmaster, and being young and carefree.

The camp exterior and looks, combined with the poppy-go-lucky music meant the subject matter of the songs is somewhat lost on the younger members of the crowd, who smile and sing along obliviously to the lines, “This fucking bitch deserves to die” and “I fucked my American cunt”.

It’s all tongue in cheek, but the girls who got on stage to help out on vocal duties on ‘Homecoming’, the song that gave The Teenagers their break through track (and with a great video by Kinga Burza), it was a wise decision to keep a backing track of the original female lyrics going, as not only did they seem about 12 years-old, but they didn’t really know any of the words.

Good on The Teenagers though for really engaging the crowd with the show, as best the limited set would let them, and by the end the seemed to have warmed-up from their ‘we’ve only been a band 5 minutes’ personas, to really going for it and cutting themselves on guitar strings from playing too hard. Next time I see them, there won’t be any conflicting messages coming across from the band. They have the songs to back up the hype, they’re young and painfully cool, so let’s just wait until the angst stage has passed and The Teenagers have grown up.

Daedelus album coming soon

Daedelus is to release a new album in June.

The producer’s latest record Love To Make Music To will be put out on Ninja Tune on June 16th. The single, Make It So will also be released with a video and a remix by Spank Rock’s XXXChange.

To support the release, a launch party will be held at Corsica Studios in London on May 23rd with Cadence Weapon, Capitol K, Rustie, Zilla, Etan, Patchword Pirates and a special guest MC.
