Royksopp release tracklisting for ‘Senior’

Royksopp have announced that the follow up to last year’s blogosphere favourite ‘Junior‘, will be released on the 13th September.

The fourth studio album, entitled ‘Senior‘ is confirmed to be an instrumental LP that serves as a binary opposition in sound and style to last year’s ‘Junior‘. In an official statement from the Norwegian duo, they spoke about the relationship between the two releases…

‘Junior’ [has] emphasis on vocals, accessible melodies and harmonies, [it] has the energy, the inquisitive temper and confident “hey-ho, let’s go!”-attitude of youth, whereas ‘Senior’ is the introverted, dwelling and sometimes graceful counterpart, brimful with dark secrets and distorted memories, insisting ‘I’m old, I’ve got experience…

The albums tracklist has been revealed and is as follows…

…And The Forest Began To Sing
Tricky Two
The Alcoholic
Senior Living
The Drug
Forsaken Cowboy
The Fear
Coming Home
A Long, Long Way

LCD Soundsystem

You Wanted A Hit (Soulwax Mix)
DFA/EMI

www.lcdsoundsystem.com

The last time these two acts collided we were treated to a record that left club-goers’ ear drums reverberating that drumbeat during the weekend, and the week that followed. I am of course talking about when Sound of Silver’s Kraftwerk-inspired opener Get Innocuous was given the Soulwax-on wax-off remix treatment. Though I’m a huge fan of James Murphy’s punk-infused cultural commentary over a glittering multi-instrumental electronic soundscape, I cannot hide my preference towards the Dewaele brothers kick-snare, kick-snare bass overhaul.

LCD Soundsystem’s last album (a 40 year old man’s verbal confusion of what the hell is going on in music right now while simultaneously making music better than anyone else is right now), This Is Happening, was a sublime conclusion to a ride I’m sure Murphy never expected to take. It’s a long departure from the wry ‘Daft Punk Is Playing At My House‘, which of course was played at the very house parties it gently raised an eyebrow towards. The Soulwax remix of that track did just the same, but when music is made to be danced to then there’s no stopping them, hipsters, music fans or casual head-nodders close to whoever’s house Daft Punk is playing in. Why should we stop them?

So when Soulwax went about their usual business for ‘You Wanted A Hit’ off the final LCD Soundsystem LP it was unquestionably a case for writers and bloggers to avoid awkward ‘you expected a hit’ wordplay and just let the beat do the talking. And it’s huge, utterly massive. Another testament to back up the part of the weekend never dies belief system. But you expected that, right?

Weedeater – Live

with Saviours & Black Cobra
The Underworld, Camden
17/06/10

‘Dixie’ Dave Collins, the lead singer, bassist and ring leader of North Carolina’s Weedeater has a certain reputation. This is the dude that toured relentlessly with notorious, drug-riddled, sludge outfits Buzzo*ven and Sourvein and earlier this year he even shot off his own toe cleaning his shot gun. With all these facts mixed in with second hand tales and myths about the man and the band there is a definite level of expectation to the evening.

With a good mix of liquor, amongst many other substances, we are the perfect company for a band that are at home playing to wasted crowd. With his insane crossed eyes, Dixie Dave psychotically spits his words and rattles his head giving the impression that he might just be as insane as the stories and rumours suggest.

Collins, drummer Keko and guitarist Shep tear through the band’s back catalogue severing up blunt sized portions that have the well baked attendees inflicting drunken violence on each other. ‘God Luck & Good Speed’, ‘Wizard Fight’ and the awesome ‘Weed Monkey’ just add fuel on the fire and the band even throw in a cover of Lynyrd Skynard’sGimme Back My Bullets’ just in case you forgot these boys were from the deep south.

With typical southern tenacity, Weedeater’s performance is second to none tonight. The sheer weight of the riffs chugged out by Collins and co are absolutely crushing. The word ‘heavy’ simply does not do Weedeater justice.

Burn one to these dudes for best results.

New Radiohead album incoming?

Some very exciting news for Radiohead fans this week… guitarist and the mind behind the incredible and often overlooked b-side ‘Meeting In The Aisle‘, Ed O Brien, announced during an interview with Adam Buxton on his BBC Radio 6 show that the follow up to In Rainbows may be released this year.

Here’s what the friendly giant himself has to say about the new record:

‘We’re in the heart of the record. It’s genuinely exciting. It’s very different from what we did last time. It’s really nice to be doing this. It’s so good to be making music with the band that you feel is still as good as it’s ever been.’
