Watch: The Narcoleptic Dancers ‘Not Evident’

The Franco-Dutch duo, The Narcoleptic Dancers, are set to release their debut EP ‘Not Evident‘ on November 8th.

The video for the title track has just dropped online and is the perfect visual compliment to their melodic female-fronted indie sound. It’s the sort of tune we can imagine fitting a summer park edit or in this case, a couple of severely hairy face-hiders eating breakfast.

You can watch the full video below.

Drum and bass legend Andy C is set to follow in the footsteps of Malcom X, Winston Churchill and Albert Einstein by speaking at Oxford University.

He will be making his speech this Friday October 15th between 7-8pm. This is a first for the drum and bass genre and a huge step forward for dance music as a whole.

Speaking on his invitation, Andy C has commented:

It’s a massive honour for me to be asked to speak at Oxford University knowing that previous speakers have included the likes of Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill and Malcolm X. To be able to go and talk about life in Drum & Bass is a huge privilege and one of my greatest achievements.”

Tom Waits to release 78RPM record

We have come to expect eccentric announcements from eccentric people, and who better to do something like this than Tom Waits.

Following his 78rpm record-inspired collaboration with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band (it was inspired by a 78 rpm recording of Danny Barker’s 1947 street chant “Tootie Ma Is a Big Fine Thing“) the song is to be released on a 78rpm record.

Now, we’re sure some of you have a record playing device and some of you don’t, though we’re even more confident that all of you aren’t in the possession of a record player that can play records at speeds other than 33rpm and 45rpm. Well, the record is to be accompanied with a limited release (504) player specifically designed to play this record. How’s that for a middle finger thrusted towards the disposable music climate we’re currently in?

Have a look at the player over on the right and head over here for more information.

That over there is the sweet looking cover art. Head over to Mark’s official website for more information on the release and see below for a rad clip of him playing as BBQ in PA last year.

The Sword’s Trevitt Wingo leaves group

Texan rockers The Sword have recently had to cancel European dates and now regret to inform fans that all scheduled dates are to be cancelled following the recently announced departure of drummer Trevitt Wingo.

In his official statement, Wingo has explained:

“It is with deep sadness that I am announcing my departure from The Sword.  After nearly seven years and some of the most amazing adventures of a lifetime,  I have arrived at a place where I am physically and emotionally unable to continue on as part of The Sword.  If I could go any further, I would as I love the music and JD, Bryan and Kyle are people that I deeply respect, but I have reached a point where I just can’t do this anymore.  I would like to thank the wonderful people who made this experience what it has been:  the fans, the people that I have worked and all of the bands and musicians that have inspired me over the years.  I thank you and apologize for any disappointment that this may cause anyone, not least of which The Sword” – Trevitt Wingo

The split was made on good terms, as supported by the following statement from the band:

“We wish Trivett nothing but the best, and it is with heavy hearts that we bid him farewell.  He is a phenomenal musician and has been an integral part of this band’s success.  He helped to lay the foundation that we will continue to build upon, and we wouldn’t be where we are without him.  We wish he could continue the adventure with us, but we understand that the life of a touring musician is not for everyone.  It’s been a hell of a ride, and we’re sad to see this part of the journey end.  The show must go on, though, and will be back on the road as soon as humanly possible.” – The Sword

The band are currently working to reschedule their European and US dates. See below for a video interview we did with the band earlier this year.
