Dinosaur Jr’s J Mascis will play a solo show in London next week.

The acoustic set will be held at London’s Metro and he will be playing some older Dinosaur Jr tracks as well as some new material from the upcoming Beyond album.

The gig will mainly be for competition winners but there will be a few tickets on the door, the night of the show.

The new album has been heard by some of Crossfire’s friends who are heavily into their music and they tell us that its brilliant and fans of the band will definitely not be disappointed.

Ian MacKaye speaks out

Ian MacKaye did an in depth interview with The Onion recently and spoke, amongst other things, about Fugazi being used in the World Series:

“It is reassuring to know that, despite all the attempts of the major labels and ad industry to control all of music, that something so totally independent can still pop up to the surface. I kind of get a kick out of it.”

He also spoke on how frustrating it was for Fugazi to play in bigger venues, claiming he felt bigger PA systems gave him a “voice of God” problem. He went on to say:

“Also, when you have a room that big and so many people in it, the people in the back of the room are having a completely different experience than the people in the front of the room.”

Ash revert to pop

Ash have revealed their new album will be more poppy than Meltdown.

The new record, You Can’t Have It All, will be out in July and drummer Rick McMurray has said that whilst the sound will be lighter, lyrically the album will be heavier, inspired by Tim Wheeler’s relationship problems of the last couple of years. McMurray added that going back to having three members led to apprehension:

“It’s almost ten years since we were a three-piece, so we were all a wee bit worried how it would work out, but we wanted to go back and simplify. There were a lot of nerves, but after a few days we realised it was working so well we would keep going at it.”

Jimmy Eat World album news

Jimmy Eat World have posted an update regarding the work on their new album.

Frontman Jim Adkins said of the sixth studio album:

“During the Christmas break we wrote some new tunes and got ideas for a bunch more. We are working on those and giving them the chance to develop. We are still very excited about what we have competed thus far and we hope to wrap it up as soon as possible. But this is the way rock is. Sorry. Shit takes forever.

We don’t consider ourselves on island time by any stretch. We want to make sure every song feels like it is as complete as it needs to be. To put songs out there and call it an album is an important thing for us. We have yet to compromise a recording session for the sake of a final product. We aren’t about to start 12 years into the band. Thank you for your patience and we hope to get more up, more often.”
